hi peoples have a few qeustions i have a vk i was originaly gonna go 5ltr 308 out of another vk but cant find any than thought go efi then stopped and thought about a super charged v6 now thinkin about a rb30 in it cause v6 is a bit of work and alot of money ie engineers certificate plus more would it fit straight in? do you reckon its worth putin a rb30 or go turbo (rb30et) ?
definately go a turbo if your gonna do the work then it way as well be really quick.

Sounds like a big project mate, sounds like a good idea to ! why not give the oldies a new boost in todays tech!![]()
Yeah its been done and is pretty much a bolt in job. search calais turbo forum there is one there. You will need an engineers certificate if you put an rb30e or an rb30et (with the rb30et you will need a vl turbo driveline and ecu and you will need turbo or v8 brakes.)
im intending to go disks all round anyway just trying to make my mind up whether to go rb30,e,et or just go v6 or 8 mmm my choice is hard im unsure but its all gotta do with money really i have all the time in the world to do just not enough doe. ive heard ppl are waisting the time on working the black 202 carbie or efi but i dont see the point ive had 2 vks and both had 202 blacks in it one just kept blowing head gasjets and the other always had a problem with the est but hell i would blame it after the trashing they took at the burn out night at eastern creek on wenesday nights lol thanks for the info more is welcome
I was at a Street Machine Commodores photoshoot today and one of the cars was an RB30 Turbo VH, Only major mod was a gearbox crossmember, fit a VL crossmember and the rest is almost bolt in if you know an auto elec. Only difference is room for cat convertor.
screw that rice *hit
I love my bucket
if u really wanna go the turbo then do it. if it was me i would put an injected 5 litre under the bonnet. but each to their own.
your going ot need an engineers for anything but a 308.. so why not go 5L EFI?

In most states, every engine is classified as being different, even if the same engine but from a different period eg putting a vl 304 into a VB.Originally Posted by VkCalaisDaZ
Every engine falls under the emissions regs and Adr's of the original vehicle it was fitted to. So to put a HQ 308 into an early commodore, you would be given a no straight up, unless you can provide a certificate from an engine builder that it was the only block that he had to rebuild your engine to original spec, otherwise your other avenue is to get an engineer to approve you have fitted the applicable emissions devices(vc-vk: blue heads/manifold with egr etc/emissions carby and hoses).
To fit a later model engine, you have to comply now with the engines emission specs. Fit a vl 304 and you might get asked to fit an unleaded tank with filler(easiest is VL tank) and a cat convertor and maybe consult an engineer. To add to this, if you go EFI, you need to use an engineer to approve conversion as all the vn-vt regulations will have to be met depending on model engine was originally fitted to.
There are grey areas here depending on who blue slips your conversion, eg: some will let you get away with fitting an efi topend conversion onto an earlier vb-vk block(your original engine) without changing any other items or needing to comply it.
Hope this helps![]()
Cant see how a Holden fitted engine in another model can constitute as rice,Originally Posted by Rosco666
some VB-VCs were fitted with turbos, Vk's had EFI on 6's. Im fitting an EFI topend to the 383 and supercharging at a later date. The good thing about Nige's purple VH(see Street Commo's Summernats issue #111) is that it stands out without being a total hybrid. His and two other nice VK's will be in the next Street Machine Commodores mag coming up mid year.
