Pat, There are very few visual differences between VB and VC.

    VC.
Black outline around the taillights, no plastic between the lights.
Commodore badge on rubber trim on front doors.
Egg crate style grill on front with holden badge in centre.
    Blue motor.

    VB.
Red outline around the taillights, no plastic between the lights.
Commodore badge on front fender above rubber trim.
Slotted style grill on front with holden badge on the edge of the bonnet.
    Red motor.

As for your question on VB-C to VH conversions, there are some threads on this in the VB - VK forum.

When you get a chance post up the build plate and options plate, we'll be able to tell you everything about your car then (factory colour, options etc.) and also 100% ID what type of car it is (like my VB had a blue motor and a VC grill so it made identification pretty tricky).. not really much difference between the VB and VC like Spike79 said.. also in addition to what he said I believe the black around the tail lights was on the upperclass SL/E models, could be wrong though.. Made a tutorial here: Tutorial: VH front end onto a VB/VC

If you need any help or tips on the conversion just let us know!

well VC SL/Es yes, infact all VCs got the black surround.
    The VBs had maroon surrounds.
But if your talking about the panel where the tailights bolt in, all SL/Es had black, the VB/VC Sls had silver in this area

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!

Thanks for clarifying that, thats what i mean't. Its only a small detail but there really weren't too many visual changes from the VB to VC.

Well if you are gonna paint it afterwards no dramas, go hunting through the wreckers for a pair of guards, headlights (with indicators), grill and a bonnet. shouldn't set you back no more than $150-$200, or if you find a VH for that price just get the whole car and strip everything off it because its all handy one day.
