Can someone tell me something. A guy I know thinks the Blue 308 motor came before the Black 308. I always thought that it came in the order of Red, Black and then Blue in the 80's. Am I right or wrong. I obviously aren't talking about the 202's here.
An auto elec once told me that the Black and Blue starter motors are different too. Is this right?
im not sure about the starter motors, but they came out in order of red, blue, then black. the blacks were the last which were in the vk and they also came out in a EFI version. the red has a 9pot head while the blue and black have a 12port head. so the heads are interchangable between blue and black but not red(correct me if im wrong
).
hope that helps u out abit mate
Its red, blue then black. Plus i *think* there is a slight difference in the blue/black starter motors. I have to have another look oneday. Its something to do with an early type reduction starter motor.

Thanks guys. So the guy I spoke to was right!I have a late 84 built VK Calais, is my motor a black then? I always thought it was a blue. I thought the auto elec guy said once that my starter motor was a blue one but I might be wrong.

read the question at the top.he said he does not wanna know about six cylinder engines.12 and nine port heads are six cylinder heads.
You should read it properly, we are talking about 308/ 5 litre Holden V8, not a 202, so why, i say again why did you post about 202 heads for??

Ahh now I know what you're on about. Someone further up the thread said something about six cylinder heads. You should have quoted it so people know what post you were referring to.Originally Posted by vk383

so is there actually anything different between the heads? like can i fit blue heads to my red 308?
You can fit blue heads on your red 308. But you gotta use the blue/black inlet manifold.

From what I've seen there is no difference between the starters and the order of the engines is red, blue then black.
