Hi all,
have just got a good old VC commodore to run around in, but yesterday it started to overheat. As it was, I was driving 60km/h, when it overheated, steam and water "spewing" out of the overflow.
Today I have flushed the radiator, cleaned the thermostat which looked ok, replaced the gasket with a new one and flushed the block. I then started the car (after completely refilling water - cap off) and let it idle. After about 5 minutes I gave it a little more revs and held it there for 30 seconds before water started to "spew" out of the top of the radiator (as the cap was off).
Any thoughts why?
There is a bit of a clicking sound so I was thinking water pump, but would this cause this?
Thanks,
Tarbs.
check water pump
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.

Check your pump mate, make sure your belts are tight to maybe there's no enough power running "Alternator belts lose"
I know there's a post around here somewhere with tips on giving ur car a good flush.
If all else fails you could try thermo's, mine ride runs fine without the thermo's but im about to install 2 anyway.
ps. it may even be a gasket seal near your exchaust ara, heating up the water.
I know you "cleaned" the thermostat but it is still my guess that is is stuffed.
it sounds like the head gasket has gone between a cylinder and the water jacket pressurising the cooling system. with gases pumping into the cooling system less water it gets hot
