hey guys, for the past few weeks when ever i do a burnout, both tyres are now spinning which now makes the rear end of the car go sidewayzit makes the biggest smoke shows now
, my mates have been recording so many i gonna put em on the net soon. i asked my dad why this has happened and he told me my diff is on its way, but if it blows i've got a spare VH diff which used 2 drive a v8. would that diff fit in a vk?
Cheers, Robbie
It depends what kind of diff it is and how well you treat it, It will bolt up because the geometry of the cars is the same and all mounting points are the same.
Your diff will go bang shortly, happened to me, so if you do any "smoke shows" do them close to home. When single spinners "lock" and become lsd's it means they are going to die. and if an lsd diff becomes a single spinner it means also that it is going to die.
doesnt mean it will go bang really they can last for ages doing twinny's.....like my mates car did many many burnouts then starting doing 2 wheels now it's back 2 single spinner and the diff is fine!! so until u start hearin loud clunks or hear the diff wining u dont really have nething 2 worry bout!
wat sorta v8 was the diff out of??? cos im pretty sure if its 253 it will fit but not 100% on that![]()
All VB-VK Sals 8 bolt 6/EFi6/253 diffs are the same internally. The EFi6/253 diffs have the large Sals yoke, the 6 ones don't.
The 5 litre diff is a 10 Bolt large Sals diff.
Now what diff do have now?. Is it a Sals or a Borg Warner(B/W)?. The difference is the yoke/flange.

a mate who had a vs did twinnies one night and thought his diff was going but we asked a mechanic at our work and he said it doesnt mean the diff on its way out it can be the surface on the road or the angle the road slopes. and my vl stared doing twinnies before i sold it and now its gone back to singles.
"From where i was, it looked like the cars you were overtaking were sitting still"
Check out my VH SL/E

Twin leggers are always a sure sign of banjo destruction lol, its annoying when it goes twins and you chuck it into a hoop and it goes back to single, at least you know they have another two weeks of hard life after a quick weld of centre and spider gears.
Your diff will fit if it is from the same body(wagon or sedan). As SLENut said, the only other major difference is the yoke. All tailshaft lengths are virtually the same VB-VL except those fitted with RB30, though the rear halfs are the same length as others. In this regard you can pick a tailshaft to fit diff, then fit it to your vehicle if it has a factory gearbox. If it doesnt have a factory box eg. Supra 5spd, you will need to get a tailshaft split and made from one that fits diff and one that fits box, and have it balanced. This is easy as all tailshafts are two piece unless specially made by owner.
i blew mine the other night...again. The night b4 I blew it i got sideways going around a roundabout. for the last few days I had heard a whining noise but I thought it was normal coz i had my back seat out at the time so thought it was just coz of that....then frday night was chirpin gears then BANG!
Had a look yesterday mornin and I have a leak at the end of the left hand side axle housing.
