as all of u would probably know, old commodores dont have much in the ways of security when it comes to locks, some can even be unlocked and started with a key from another car.
So i was wondering what would be the best way to go changing igniton barrel and locks.
I dont really want solex locks cause if heard they can just be popped out with a screwdriver easily. So any other suggestions would be good thanks, nothing too expensive though :P
Cheers.
I'm not up to date with these sorts of things, but i know what you mean with regards to the solex locks, everyone seems to think they are fantastic, but i know for a fact they can be undone very easily, and without any damage whatsoever, obviously i won't go into any detail, but i think they give people a false sense of security.
I have opened my mates car a thousand times without the key, just to leave notes and do other humourous things, like putting a parking ticket on the inside of the windscreen, he was confused for days about that![]()
haha sneaky![]()
Kill switches for the ignition, take out the locks from the doors and weld over the holes, best security I've found
yeah id do that too but i dont have the money for central locking yet + i heard shaving locks is illegal? or is that door handles?
Roughly how much is it to shave the locks? Hard? Effort? Time? Cost?
You know that little thumb bit on the ignition where you turn the key? Snap it off or cut it off. Theives broke the one in my torana off and it can't be started with a shifter and screwdriver without that bit.
I know its very bush mechanic but its effective.
Dosent the key snap off or get twisted without that bit?Originally Posted by ucwepn
That it is for less effort starting it hehe.. and key support

The best deterent I've seen is that the car only has Undercoat paint job, looks like it has done 300K thru the bush, all panels straight and everything working of curse, have had no probs so far been like this for two years.
Should say Course and only done 134K, genuen, genuan, real
yer i reakon solex locks are the way to go it solved my problems
i use solexes all round and i havent had any troubble what so ever. except the boot lock rattels with my sub. so wen i get it hooked into my alarm pad ill probs shave all locks and just use the remote.
thats the best thing to do then they cant get in without makin noise
its pretty easy to smash a window without making much noiseOriginally Posted by brohawk

I am sure people can figure that out.
One tip to everyone on this board. If you have a nice alarm with the pretty flashing LED on the right hand side of the steering column on the dash, then I almost guaruntee no one will try and break in. I have an alarm with my steering lock and I think that's a great deterrent.
I had my old car's barrels screwdrivered once or twice. I popped in a flashing LED and the attempts stopped. Since having my VK, no one has played with the locks. You'll see me running with a flashlight and baseball bat if I hear my alarm go off in the middle of the night![]()
