hey there, got myself an old VB red 202 and is backed by a shitty ol' trimatic, i have a donor VC BLUE 202 blown with a 5 speed, just wanting to know if the flywheel and all the input shaft off the VC would fit, and also the driveshaft, just want to know really if a blue fywheel will fit on a red motor?

    cheers, nick

yes, yes it will, just make sure you use all the components from the blue one, inc. the flywheel bolts, inspection plate and the clutch parts... Just remember, a new spigot will never go astray while its all in bits, k...

I have a feeling the 5-speed is a small borg-warner box, not like the ones in the VN's onwards tho...

just out of curiosity as we're on the topic, wot 5spds would fit a 1900cc VC, the 4spd i got is not far off gone.

the aussie 4-speed's are not too bad, prob stronger than the 5-speed...
If you were to go an aussie 4-spd, try to get your hands on an m-21 (you'll pay extra tho), they have a good ratio and are stronger than the m-20, which was the standard one for the commodore...
Personally, i'd fork out the bit extra and go the toyota box, clica - good for your money, but if you want major strength, go the supra box...

The M76 5speed is a straight bolt up job to the misfire4, Infact any box from behind the L6 engines will bolt up, as the Starfire engine is just a 2850 six with two cylinders lopped off!!!

My first car was a 4cyl VC with MC6 box. I have some very fond memorys of that car, the driveline is not one of them.

Yes they are a totally different design, gear ratios are different as well. The "philo" was called the torquemaster 4 speed by Holden, this referred to its super low first gear not its torque handling ability. Mate I suggest that you put the one you've got in and see how you like it. If you do like it good luck to you, If you don't start saving for somthing better. If you plan to keep the car long term then save up for a supra or T5 conversion.

the torquemasters are weak thats for just don't thrash it and it might last long enough to buy something better i hope you got the speedo cable with it.

A Supra 5speed would be major overkill behind a Misfire4 don't you think. The M76s were unbreakable behind the old boatanchor4.

i was reffering to the message about the aussie 4 speed behind a 3.3, not the next message about the starfire.... and yes, a supra box would be an overkill for the starfire...
