    Question RB25DET into VK Sedan??????

    Hi all,

long time listener, first time caller. Hoping you guys can help me on info about fitting a RB25DET into my VK(was 308 manual, now no eng). Will I have to put in a 6 cyl cross member? Has this conversion been done? If so, can you point me in the right direction to get the help I need.

    Cheers.

Engine mount locations are exactly the same when only different is the mounting positions for the steering rack so make a decision what rack you want to use weather a VL rack for the RB series power steering pump, lines etc.
Else if you want to use the existing VK rack you may need to modify power steering lines. which isnt a big deal anyway.

    cheers

That was always my first choice but the missus bitches about the fuel & always getting pulled over by the cops which is why im thinking a RB25DET, they dont go too bad for a ricer engine, they are EFI & a quiet exhaust thanks to the turbo(even a 3" is quiet, but hey, I'm used to twin 3" dumped @ diff).

Also, can I use the engine mounts that come with the R33 front cut or will I have to get some VL RB30 ones?

    Cheers.

Most likely you will be needing the VL ones I would also try modifying them to try and get the engine to sit a bit lower as well. The RB engines sit higher than the radiator in the VL which is the reason you see VLs with damaged heads etc.

Have you thought about swapping the twin cam heads onto a 3L block? easy power gain to be had here.

    cheers

Good thinking 99. I looked into the R33 front cut & it's going to cost me about $3-4,000 for everything I need(more than I thought). I have seen the RB30E engines @ wreckers from $200-$1,000 with loom, box ect....

Is it a straight forward swap with the head or are there mods needed to pistons, timing gear ect?

the rb30det is a big conversion and you will need a custom timing belt and I can't remember what else off the top of my head. Go with the rb25det conversion, you may need a VL 6 crossmember because I think the sumps are different, and you will need to do something about the trans crossmember and will prolly need a custom tailshaft.

Go for it man, there is big power to be had, 400hp with a few bolt ons and some boost.
