Default will 6cyl aussie 4 spd go on a 308?

just a quick question... does anyone know if the aussie 4 speeds are interchangable between the 253/308's and the VB-VK 6 cylinders? im guessing its a different bell housing but could i get an aussie 4 speed from a 6cyl and put it behind a 308. my 308 already has an aussie 4 speed in it but its a bit broken. i guess my other question would be... if they do fit, is there any difference in strengths between the gearboxes?

    thanks.

I thought aussie 4 speeds weren't strong enough like the Celeca boxes as well to go behind a 5 litre monster?

    I'm sure i've seen a 4spd in a VH 8 once.. Though that could of been a 5spd.

My SL/E has a M21 from factory. Never had a rebuild and still going stong. I also have a mate that once raced a LH torry with 400HP at the flywheel. The M21 never ever failed either.

My mate has a aussie 4 speed. Not sure if it's a M20 or 21, but I will ask him. How much should you expect to pay for a M21 box in good order?

Well i don't about over the Bass Strait prices but down here in tassie anything between $350-500 for M21, cheaper for M20. The M21 are getting harder to come by though

Ok an M20 will go behind a V8 although a 6cyl one will need a different input shaft, bellhousing & clutch fork to be compatible.
The difference between an M20 & M21 was gear ratios the 6cyl M20 & V8 M20 have the same ratios, some of the early V8 boxes had wider 1st & second gear but they eventually were all the same.

All boxes use the same output shaft.

    hope this clears things up.
    cheers
    Scott

quickest way to tell the difference between the 6 cyl box and the V8 is to look at the input shaft. the 6 had one line and the 8 had 2 lines on it. If your in melb I have a M21 for a V8 with bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel just sitting in my garage.
