Staight to the point.
I have a 202 black sitting in a manual VK. I plan on working the engine and gbox and putting it into a VB-VK in better condition. Now I've read alot of debate about the varajet. Most say it's a dud and you need to replace it with a Holley or with the Weber out of the XE Falcon.
Others say that the varajet is tough when you get it set up right. So performance is good but how is reliability?
I read an article in Streetmachine that worked a 202 and had no significant performance gain by adding a Holley. They speculated that the larger jets in did a bad job at atomising fuel. Is this an issue using the webber?

I have found nothing wrong with the varajet carby as long as it is set up correctly with the butterfly in the correct position. Even better if the green cap covering the screw for the butterfly is still intact, which means it is still factory set and should not be tampered with at all. They dont like air leaks at all and that was one of their biggest problems with people not changing the lower gaskets to get a good seal. When going correctly a great carby with little problems at all. I worked with heaps of them when I worked for GMH during the VK days.
what about the varajet 2? i have one of those on my 202 ..
Depends what stuff you wanna put on your 202 mate, personal i'd skip the holley.. and go with extractors.
My plan is for an all round performer, good enough take off but the top end is where I want the power. Lumpier cam (280+ duration), roller rockers, extractors, electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, most work to block and head like port/polish/deck/hone/balance, straight cut timing gears.
No turbo, no blower, no stroking or unnessesary boring out. Give the 202 the chance to reach its natural potential.
Tell me bout air leaks. Few years ago I messed about with my mum's ford laser and afterwards it had a vacuum leak you could hear down the street.

Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.
