Its just a MC6 4 speed basically the 4 speed version of the Borgwarner M76 5 speed. These gearboxes were originally put behind 4 cyl Corollas & Caronas as well as 4 cyl commodores.
There were also put behind carbie 6cyl commodores.
Their main problem is they cant handle alot of torque, 1st gear is especially weak 2nd isnt the best either.
cheers
Scott

I had one of these in my first car. First gear was ridiculously low, almost like a Granny gear in a truck. The shift is very notchy as well, I used to have to double clutch on the 3-2 back change. Also to say that this box is a 4 speed version of the m76 is incorrect and would be a major insult to Borg Warner. This stuff up soley belongs to GM.
Both the MC6 & M76 boxes are a single rail Borgwarner gearbox. Lots of parts are interchangable between the 2 boxes.
If I was borgwarner I would have gone around and grinded my name & logo off the side of every box I had produced![]()

I think you may be confusing this box with the four speed version of the M76 that was fitted to Sigmas and Cortinas to help meet Australian content requirments in the late seventys and early eightys. The MC6 was manufactured by one of GMs sweat shops in the Philipines hence the nick name the philipino box, whilst the BW boxes were produced here in Oz. The lay out of the MC6 and the M76 are quite different whilst the M76 and the sigma 4speed are Identical forward of the extension housing.
so is my box any good
Well what plans do have for it?. Might be fine behind a backfire 4, thats about it really.
