    Default help starting my vk...

hi i just bought my self a vt commodore and have my old vk siting in the garage at the moment waiting there till it is sold. but when i leave it for 2 or so days i cant start it cause there is no petrol in the carbie, so i pour some into it and it kicks over and runs fine, i thought i may have been the fuel pump releasing the fuel back through it back to the tank, but since that is fixed i still does it. any ideas would help greatly

if ur looking for a vk for a first car or even a project car, its got k'n airfilter, extractors, full kmac suspension bar the rear srpings.

Take the air cleaner off and see if the choke valve is closed and do a few long strokes on the pedal when starting. Might even be stale fuel.

so when i pump the pedal should the choke valve be still closed, i was also told that it could be the jets or something around those lines i cant really remember.

When cranking with the air filter off, after a few seconds you should see fuel coming out of the jets in the carburettor. The choke valve should be closed when cold and cranking.

    thanks for the info.
i just started the engine then, it started then stalled then would kick over so all i did was pump the throttle on the carbie to see if fuel was getting in and i did this a fair bit and it kick over runs perfectly. so to me i seems like it is just losing fuel from the bowl or something cause i think all it need to happen was to be filled up and it starts. so yeah could that mean there is a hole in the float.

It is normal for a carb to run a bit dry after a while. The fuel evaporates and you need to pump the pedal a bit to get the fuel through.

It's possible you might need to rebuild the carb if it's been a while.

the car has got about $3000 in recipts, bit over 280 000 thousand on the clock. automatic transmission, runs well, handles great, near near bridgestone turanza tyres, taillights with the clear indicators, solex locks all round protection.

Solex locks aren't protection. They can be ripped out.

    Your pics are showing.
