    Default Modified 202 Head

Hey guys Scored a head from work today was told by the boss to scrap it because it has been ported and we only do standard rebuilds. Ask the boss if i could keep it and he said ok. Anyways few questions as i normally only work on alloy heads i don't have much in-depth knowledge in 202 heads (i will soon as i'm taking over doing cast-iron heads when the guy goes on holidays). I know it's a red 202 head with larger inlet and exhaust ports.
Basically i want to know if it worth keeping?
Is there any chance it might be a yella terra Head? if so is there any way to tell by markings no's or that sort of thing.
I've already crack tested welded the corrosion and and gonna sandblast it and machine the faces tomorrow (damn hate working saturdays) Is there other problems that i should check for.
Is it worth wasting my time pressure testing it?

Anyways any info would be appreciated i know red heads aren't the best but i got it for nothing so you can't complain.

could be worth mucking with, when i was lad and got the power bug we used to get the 202 heads and turn them into 12 porters and use triple side draft 45 mm webbers on them .they made a 12 porter on the vk black motor but was very mild compared what you could make yourself,we would port them right out and put steal tube posts where the head bolts went thst side near the ports and use a product called devcon to make the chambers seperate.it is a liquid 2 pack steal.used a ford 250 reground crancshaft and turned the motor into a stroker, used to do 12,s over the 1/4 in eh holdens so wernt no dragsters but they used to go preaty hard.so depending what you realy want to do with this 202 head for free and with a bit of mucking round you could have a ball as i did 30 plus years ago.

thanks mate yeah it's been ported right out and has steel posts in it. that idea of turning it into a 12 port head is very interesting as i'd rather put it in a vk with efi. I can get most of stuff e.g. vavles from work gave it a sandblast today and it came up sweet. I'm still undecided whether to keep it as i got the missus hassling me about turning the house into a car yard.

The water passages are different between the red and blue or black motors. The head stud holes are the same but the red motor uses a different head gasket because of the different water passage locations. We used to drill holes in the top of the red motor block so a blue motor head could be fitted. Not sure if you can put a red head on a blue or black motor.

Yea the red head will bolt onto the blue block with the opposite mods done by tree cutter. Iv done the exact same mod to my 202. Use the head gasket as a template.

I had a blue 202 with a red head. Had problems getting manifold to not leak and also issues getting the bastard to idle. Once all the problems had been smoothed out, it ran beautifully. But it is most definately possible to use a red head on a blue motor.
