I have bought my first car, a VK Berlina 3.3L 202 EFI and would like to know what i should to to increase its power/performance without exceeding the maximum power for p-platters? i have about $2500 to spend. Also could u list approximately how much each thing to do would cost thanx.
Head work is where your biggest back for your buck will come from.
So you can talk to a cam company, someone like crow work out what cam you want based off the type of driving, cars gearing, tire size etc and then buy a head to match your requirements.
Depending on how much you do yourself if could cost around $600-$2000
The remaining money I would spend on a extractors back exhaust, probably 2" to 2.5" just remember bigger isnt always better and it should suit your engine mods.
If your doing the work yourself you can save yourself a load on labour etc but it depends on your skills and equipment.

Thanx that is a good idea. I would like to hear more if u have any.
What about smaller mods such as air intakes and filters that sort of stuff?
Air filter wont do a great deal for the car as the standard one wouldnt be restricting performance, maybe with the head & cam package a K & N Panel filter would be worth while.
Other mods or improvements you could do as follows
Replace your plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor button make sure its running right
Manual conversion, you do loose a little power through the auto
A diff ratio change, easiest way would be to install a diff from a VL changing your diff ratio form a 3.08 to a 3.45 giving you much better take off although you will loose a little top end.

there is a power limit for p-platers?
never heard of that before
If thats a serious question: 125kw per tonne or 3.5L per tonne. Both are seperate, so a VK with a stock 308 is under the power to weight ratio, BUT the capacity in litres is over, making it a "high powered car" according to vic roads.Originally Posted by jay_hman

You could check the ID plate of the car I have info on my site to work out what ratio it would be but the best and most accurate way to work it out is to take the cover plate off the back of the diff and it is stamped in the crown gear.Originally Posted by phat_com
