I know theres a heap of threads on this but I want to know how much roughly it would cost.
I'd buy a written off VN/VR with a 3.8 V6 and i know a mechanic and an auto electrician so i might be able to get it put in and wired up for cheaper..

im no pro, but you should be able to pick a motor and gear box for prolly 500-1000, getting it installed will cost a bit tho, im unsure about that
if its done properly, ive heard itll cost including engine n parts etc.. roughly $4000-$5000

thats pretty good, it would be worth looking into buying a new 3.8 motor, i think there called boxed as a slang or something, instead of getting a 2nd hand one, if i ever get the money i want to do that, but while putting it in, put all the mods exaust, cams, pod ect ect all new with it.
so it only coat you 2000 or less to put a 3.8 in that car?
yes cheaper but i havnt got the speedo converter yet
speedo? is that cause it goes faster now? of what u will have to explain what u mean
As 3800VH said around the 2000 if you do it yourself.
As for the electrical, you can get an adapter from V6 Conversions, http://www.v6conversions.com.au/, which last time I check left you with only a half dozen wires to connect up.
They can also supply you with your new gearbox mount.
Here a pic of mine. Discovered a few tricks since I did it.
Best bet is to buy a whole wrecked car not just the parts you want.

yeah i already have the vk
im putting rims and sound system on hold to do it
i want an engine under 150,000 kms
would it be possible for under 2grand?
Yes as long as u do most of the work your self. That green VK looks like the one i have in my drive ready for the conversion.I just need a part from the The Castlemaine Rod Shop to make the digital speedo sender to the analog dash. around 200$
whats the cost like to get the cetificate to say you can have the motor in the car?
well i just rung the rego office and told them the engine numbers and that i was a V6 they were all happy
The engineers certificate when i did mine cost me about $350.
In NSW you can't rego the car with out an engineers certificate if you put a V6 in it.
vk3800 what did u do with the relays and fuses in the engine bay?
I have a injected 202 that I have been planning to do this very thing to. Its a lot easier to convert a 3.3i to a 3.8V6 than a carby model. The original VK electric pump can be used and the car already has all of the fuel return lines installed. You can even the VK fuel tank though a lot seem to replace it with that of a VN.
I'v checked the ADR (Australian Design Rules) which is what the engineers will scrutinise the finished job by and its not a lot of work to accomplish.
Let us know how it goes, would like to see howit comes off and how you get over the hurdles
Good luck and check out the link.

yeah mines an efi 202.
have u found a good VN/VP yet ? are you looking for auto or manual?
3800VH - When I did mine I had it done by an auto elec.
He put extra relays in the fuse box. All the existing fuses where retained and modified as needed.
But as i said before, get a wiring loom adapter from V6 Conversions. It would work out easier in the long run. Below is info from their web site.
The wiring kit we have available covers from the VN - VS. It comes in 2 parts, the under bonnet loom with all the relays and fuses and the under dash loom which incorporates an engine trouble light. The wiring kit plugs into the original engine and gearbox loom leaving only 6 wires to be tapped into your vehicles original loom, which are - alternator light, oil light, temp light or gauge, ignition, starter & tacho.
WILL THE VK EVER MAKE IT BACK ON THE ROAD
nah im gonna get the 202 going better and probably put a v8 in it when i'm off my P's.Originally Posted by 3800VH
