Hey i was wondering how to put the following into a vk berlina,
-electric windows
-cruse controll
- redo the aircon(like can i pay someone and they will fix it and make it go better, hot in winter cold in summer
- speed alarm
any info would be great thanks guys, see ya
i wouldnt really bother it will probly cost 500 and up
Either buy a calais, or find a wreaked one to strip.![]()
Yeah my berlina has all that stuff....your probably better off buying another berlina with all the options anyway. - price wise it would be cheaper.
im not concerned bout price, but does a calais have cruise controll and can u get it installed from a place from scratch, thanks guys
Im nearly through doing pretty much that kind of stuff to my VK project car.
Front electric windows are easy, rears are a mongrel
Cruise control, if you but the genuine parts its just bolt in and plug in easy stuff. You need to drill a hole in the stering column for fit a cruise control one so you can bolt up the cruise switch.
Speed alert? do you mean the electronic dash with trip computer? again easy bolt in and plug in stuff.
Cost wise your better just buying a wreaked calais or as I did found someone wreaking one and stip all the parts you want.
I have been putting up some info when I get time on my site about it.
cheers
Scott
Loads of VB-VK information, All you need to know about EFI 5L Conversions Ultimate EFI 5L Conversion resource "
Wanted B Cast Heads PM for details
thanks mate, thats all i needed to know, the main thing i was woried aout was the cruise controll, but now thats handled thanks mate
I wasn't going to write this as I am tired at the moment but I thought I'd contribute some more
Scott made some good points.
Electric windows
You need the front and rear setups, including the back switches and front console switches. About $200 or less for the switches. Not sure how much the power windows will cost but like everyone said, buy a wreck but they are becoming rare. You'll meed the Calais conolse with the switches cutout if you want to put the 4 way switches in there. You'll also need the cutoff switch to cut off the back power windows (child SPST switch) which is mounted on the lower RH side.
Cruise control
You need the cruise control switch/button, that is connected to the left hand side of your steering column. You also need the cruise control throttle diaphragm (mounted on the firewall) and rod that connects to your throttle on your carburettor. Also the cruise master (cruise control unit). Holden call it a transducer, but that is garbage. Find one that is fully working and then you'll be on a role! You will also need the vacuum hoses that connect to the manifold, cruise master and the diaphragm for the throttle. You also need the wiring that connects to the cruise control switch and also the digital dash and wiring that connects to it.
The speed alarm is simple enough. Buy a Dick Smith or Jaycar kit and mount it below the dash. BEEP BEEP BEEP.
The air con probably needs to be looked at by an air con joint. A lot of auto electricians know this sort of thing.
If you want to know how the cruise control works, it's basically you have the cruise master. It's a unit with a solenoid inbuilt that when the switch is pressed (12V hold), it grabs vacuum and holds the throttle position, until you press the brake pedal or I could be wrong on this one, press the cruise control button again. It's all controlled by vacuum. The way to find out if you have a working cruise master unit is to open it up and check that the winding spiral of metal is not broken and that the rest of the unit looks ok, plus the solenoid is working. The reason I say it isn't a transducer and Holden screwed that up by saying it is the transducer, it is a device that converts one energy to another and the cruise master does none of that. It's actually the digital dash cylinder transducer that converts the speedo signal to electronic signal for the speedo dash. Anyone who thinks I am wrong, speak up please.
After that I think you'll be alright.![]()

Umm...maybe that explains why my back windows never work from the back door switches??Originally Posted by zoist
Would there be one in my car? Where abouts? lol.
The SPST swith is between your steering column cover and your fuse box cover, look for a black round button...
Go to autobarn and get an aftermarket cruise. The VK origional was very primative and most were very un-reliable.Originally Posted by 3800_man
Go and see a air con specialist for your air, buy a trashed calais for the windows as others have mentioned but keep in mind that the buttons tended to stuff up a bit and I wouldn't bother about the speed alarm.
