help manual transmision jumps out of 2nd gear unless i hold it there

either get the linkages adjusted, or get the shifter rejusted or get someone that fixes gearboxes. It could be something on the inside causeing it to jump too

Ok Your linkages could be warn & out of adjustment but a common faultif you have an aussie 4 speed, what happens to them is the inside of the cluster wears oval over time causing a little float in it, its easily fixed a machine shop and machine out the centre and press an insert in.
You will need to fit a small parts kit to the gearbox as well.

All up it should cost around $300 for the machinework & rebuild kit.

found the linkage cluster worn...just bought the car today $600 prefer it to driving my vt exec.......but still miss me 71 hQ.....lol ...thanx wal
