    Default Tyers Q.

    Hey all

Well I’ve been trying on these mags that a brought for my car awhile ago at a cheap price, but they don't look like they are fitting right, the mag doesn’t wobble or nothing its stiff but the actually brake cylinder bit where the old tyre slides straight on top doesn’t seem to be doing so with the mag, I suspect the mag maybe 1 or 2 inch short or a may need mag nuts.. The mags are Simmons or copy's...

The rim size is almost the same, the center is just different

If I think I'm reading this right mate, it sounds like the actual PCD of the wheel nuts are the same for your hub and mag, but it's the actual locating spigot of your hub that the mag doesnt locate on? Is this right?

If so, DONT use these mags! that spigot plays a very vital role in both centralising/ locating the rim properly onto your hub. If you were to simply go try and use your wheel studs for locating the general postion and hope that squashing the wheel onto the hub by tightening the wheel nuts to buggery would be ok, you'd be very wrong indeed!!
Not only would your wheel most probably not be centrallised, and spin eccentrically in an out-of-round way (makes for erratic driving and also very dangerous), but more importantly, the poor wheel studs are now the only things supporting the entire weight of the car with some huge side loading on them aswell! Dont be suprised if your car suddenly one day turns into a 2 tonne sled cruising down the freeway on its belly!
This is why older holdens with say, an hq stud pattern must never use a commodore wheel, eventhough their PCD and spigot diameters are oh-so close, as major accidents have happened because of this.

Anyway mate, I'm not even sure if what I'm talking about is even the same prob you describe? (I hope not anyway!) but just be wary dude. Cheers
