hi ive just got my Ps and a Vk commodore from 1984. I got it for just under $1500 with a few months rego and it runs great. Ive had it for a few months now and want to put money into looks and proformance but had a few questions i couldnt find answers to.
Im really new to working with cars and noone in the family is mechanicaly minded so i didnt no who to ask.
ive been reading through different threats and found out some stuff but have many unanswered questions... anyhelp would be much appreciated
1. which is better, getting efi or an xe/xf carberator for my black 202. does one or both use more petrol... are they worth it
2. what does an electronic dizzy do...
3. is it true that i cant put on rims more then 2inch bigger then stock..
im a student with a limited amount of money to spend but what else can be done to inprove my car.
thanx again for any help
If I were you I would go with the EFI. It will use less fuel than a carby and will have some good potential for power. The only downside is that it will be more expensive than a new carby.
An electronic dizzy does away with points. When the dizzy rotates the points open and close to engage and disengage the current to the sparkplugs. Points can foul and need replacing; however, electronic ignition needs no maintinance.
The overall diameter of your wheels can go 2 inches (or something like that) bigger, so if you get bigger rims and use low profile tyres then the overall diameter will not change.
(Dont quote me on the rim info but, Im not 100% sure)
Hope I could help,
SLundy
1. the efi 202 motors are crap!!! they use more fuel than a v8
2. i have no idea
3. yep its tru u can only go 2" larger than stock ( so if ur vk had 14" wheels from factory then u can only have 16" wheels) it should say on ur tyre card in ya glove box!!

EFI is good if you get a decent set-up. Lot of wreckers around in Brisbane have full sets for roung 75-100... But install yourself kind of thing...
Electronic dizzy gives a cleaner, stronger spark, timing is easier to set from the shop, but runs off a computer... Bit more of a ### around, but wreckers should also have a few EST (Electronic spark timing ) computers fromt he VK's.
Wheels and tyres are all depending on a LOT of different factors, inc width, rim size, profil etc... prolly wouldn't go higher than 18" on a vk... may have to tub guards otherwise. :P
good luck and pos up some pics!!!
Later.
