As expected, there are a few hiccups. vkberlina... would u be able to tell me what the go is? the manual box is indeed larger length ways than the auto. as far as i can tell by about 70mm. Therefore the tailshaft isnt gunna f!$king fit![]()
The other thing is the flywheel. Something in my head was saying, no... why would there be 2 different flywheels. But it seems there are? My stupid mistake maybe. So basically, tailsahft definatly different, although in the gregory's service manual it only describes one shaft.... and the flywheel has to be changed, again, only one described in the manual. ahhhhhhhh, what are your takes? Oh one other thing, what was the idea behind having a 2 piece tailshaft?? lol

hey i have been told when i was goning 2 do a manual conversion to my vk by my dad (a machanic) that i would need 2 change the flywheel im guessing the manual one is different to da auto . and as far you could proberly just pick up a different tailshaft from the net or a wrecker i was told i would need this too
yep, that seals it. i got the bloody auto out. lol, only to discover that the pressur eplate for the clutch not only didnt line up with the bolt holes on the flywheel, it was actually a little larger than the flywheel itself. I measured the length of both box's and found that the auto was slightly shorter than the manual, so yeah. Going to have to get a tailshaft and a flywheel. both of which i think i can get on the cheap. (thats not to say they shit, just owed some favours)

You need a manual flywheel, the auto only has a flex plate.
As for the tailshaft, I have an assortment of tailshafts kicking around at home. So if you gst stuck I should have the bits you need including a flywheel if i look hard enough.
For the tailshaft I just need to know what gearbox to what diff.
cheers

Well i've got borg warner box going in it. 5 speed for a VK. The diff thats on it i think is a borg warner, judging by the 4 bolts holding it on the tailshaft's yoke. the other type of diff usues U Bolts dosent it?... but yeah, 78 Series diff im fairly sure and a borg warner 5 speed for a vk, i think its an m76?
My Car is my OTHER child
Yup M76 borgwarner 5 speed to M78 borgwarner diff, I have a tailshaft and pretty sure a flywheel if your interested

please tell me you weren't trying to bolt the fly wheel to the flex plate,,if you were you should let a pro do it for you as you don't have a clue.
the manuals use a flywheel, auto's use flex plates, two completely differnet items,,,if the fly won't line up then you have the wrong one(if thats possible).
Some other things that you should replace/ change are:
*The spigot bush. There different between the auto and manuals.
*The speedo gear, vkberlina might be able to tell you which one you will need.
*Gear box cross member is the same, just moves back to the unused bolt holes.
Tail shaft and flywheel, as vkberlina said, got to be changed.
WILL THE VK EVER MAKE IT BACK ON THE ROAD
lol, m8. it obvious they were differnt, hence why i posted to say i NEED a flywheel... I dont have one for the manual at the moment, hence why vkberlina was offering one to me, and a tailshaft. Before you mouth off you'd be better off READING the post. I can install it just as good as ne1 else. if u give me the money for a pro to install it, then i will. lol. Your nickname isnt DIPSTICK is it?

Not a good way to make friends, coming here on the first post and pissing someone off.
You might have a flywheel off a red motor which uses a smaller clutch than the blue or black. Get a blue motor flywheel i think they use a nine inch clutch whereas the red one is eight and three quarters. You will also have to replace the spigot bush which is in the back of the crankshaft. The auto uses a metal spigot with a taper facing the trans and a manual uses a brass bush that fits flush with the end of the crank. The spigot supports the front shaft of your manual box so you must use it. To remove the old spigot bush, fill the hole in the middle completely with grease then find a bolt that is a neat fit in the hole, then hit the bolt in with a hammer this forces the grease behind the bush pushing it out. If the bolt goes in far enough to hit the crank put some more grease in and hit again until the bush comes out.
ok. thanks very much for that, i've taken off the auto flex plate and i was having trouble getting the bush out so i'll give that a go. thanks again.
