wasn't there a comodore "L , SL , SL/X & SL/E" i n the earlier models?
could that be what it is?
Well usually L is a low compresion version, highly doubt that. L could mean Litre.
The VC had the L base model code.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
ok, grabbed my commodore manual..
Engine code says
L = 3.3 Litre EST. Carby
K = 3.3 Litre EFI. Fuel Injection
T = 5.0 Litre
hrmmm, maybe my logical thinking wasn't actually right!!! i'll still stand by it though. i've been happy with it for the last few years.

Your thinking could be correct. I think the L is just a designation that holden pulled out of there ass though. Holden refers to all of the red/blue/black sixes as L6 also the starfire 4 was called the L4 so I guess it just identifies that family of engines.Originally Posted by vh-holden

V6... guess what 6 cylinder in a "V" configuration
it is the engine designation used in house at Holden
i would be thinking in this context it is the model designation though L, SL, SL/E etc.
Rob
It would just mean the car is L = budget model but then again was there ever a VK L? I know at least up to VH there was L,SL,SS,SL/X and SL/E in order of price
again, Six Cylinder L = 3.3 Litre EST.. a L6 engine refers to long six aka straight six.. But the manual states after the engine it refers to the engines litre size etc and by the looks of it. Whether its a natural aspirated or injected engine.
