Default VK V8 power steering pump

Just a question peoples, lately when I get in my car after it sitting overnight, the power steering seems to be stiff (i.e: not working) for a few metres up the road until I turn the wheel a bit side to side and then the power steering is gold again!

Now the fluid is always full in the pump and it has no leaks at all. I am just wondering if these pumps can be rebuilt or are they non serviceable items? Just noite that this is a V8 pump and is completely different to the Vk 6 cylinder ones.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

The V8 pumps are similar to a 6cyl pump excet housed with the resovoir.

You can remove the pump from the resovoir but the O ring that seals between the pump & resovoir flattens out over time if you disturb it it would mostlikely spring a leak so it would need to be replaced.
I have some diagrams, pics and info about the power steer pumps they are pretty much the same from VB to Series 1 VT 5L.

It can be serviced but is difficult to do as the pully needs to be pressed off the shaft & the C clip that is in the back of the pump is hard to get out.

I rebuilt my pump completely but I wouldnt do it again. I would only replace the resovoir seals.

    cheers
    Scott

If you have some diagrams that would be great. Please post them

I could probably rebuild one if it needs pressing, I have access to a good vice and a pretty industrial hydraulic press at the farm if needed. Are there kits for these? Or do they just use generic O rings and stuff? Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default VK V8 Power Steering Pump Rebuilds

I just did my P/S Pump today.Only had a small leak but the BOSS(Wife) was spewing about her driveway .Read alot of posts from here beforehand.Got my kit PT. No 26091699 from Motor Trades or Coventry's depending on where you are for $23.The kit is diffrent to the V6 type, just more seals but basically the same.Didn't take long.I used 2 clamps to push the back on & used the hole to start the C clip going back in.Mine had a hole in the side to poke the clip out easily.I then tapped the opening oposite to the hole.No leaks anymore & I even slipped a filter in on the return line. The rear plate C Clip was a bit tricky to put back in but nothing to serious. She's off me back now.
