Default VL intrument cluster in VK ???

I had ideas of ridding myself of the ugly sqaure instuments in my VK. I thought that VL back lit items might work. Any ideas?? Also after parts for this job and a calais centre console to go with it.

It would be possible but i'm sure there's a lot of differences between the dashes as the vl's have a different motor and some of the gauges probably run off the ecu. I don't much about vl's as i never owned so some other people might be able to enlighten you ask or look in the vl forum for answers i'm sure they'd know a bit more about what's involved and how the dash operates

I sort of started this mod when I had a Vk...the top dashboard fits straight in... it's just the plugs that were different if memory serves me right...I remember chopping the Vk dash to fit into the VL intrument housing as a temporary fix when I had the dashboard in while I searched for a VL wiring loom to suit... I never finished it off and just got another Vk dashboard to fit back in... an easier mod would be to fit the VH dashboard me thinks...

I was attracted to the VL panel for the back lit gauges. Thanks for the enlightening.

If we are talking about the same thing, no its not. VB to VK clusters where set up as front lit gauges and then covered with a plasic plate with the apartures for each instument as applicable. Similar to a light on a digital watch. VL to current instrument clusters are back lit like a modern mobile phone keypad. If your VH is like this then it definately is not original and I would love to know how it was done. I have since spoken to Holden and they tell me that VL speedo's are different and even a tacho wont work because of the different pulse from the EMS. I have had a suggestion to use the VL face plates and lights over the old VK instrument 'guts'. Like replacing the face plates. I wonder.............................
