The Celica boxes are a bit too soft to go behind the 253 but the supra one will do fine. Bear in mind that with the Supra box you will need to fork out twice for bellhousings and clutches if you use it behind the 202 then switch to the 253 later. In the short term you might be better off getting a cheap MC6,M20 or M75 and second hand clutch for the 202 from the wreckers or trading post. Then get the good stuff when your ready to put the 253 in.

I saw a V8 Aussie 4 speed go on ebay for $80 a while back. Now that is cheap. That should suit a 253. Get one complete if you can.

dont use the celica box, they are crap, i'm not a big fan of the supra box either if ya gunna put heaps of touque through it, i just rebuilt one for a toyota soarer drift car with 280 rwkw, it lasted 2 months b4 it disintergrated the primary shaft bearings!! if it was mine a would be chancing a t5 out of a late model ss and seeing if there is an adaptor/retro kit

    M21 should be enough for a 253...I had one behind a 304 and I couldn't break it.

T5s are no stronger than Supra boxes. There arn't many 253s putting out 280rwkw either, As for drifting, no production gearbox or clutch is going to put up with abuse like that in the long term.
