    Default Ammeter into a VC

    Hey All

I'm kind of stuck on this atm, on location of my horn reley, my ammeter must connect as this piece of paper says for GM. Is the horn reley located in the fuse box area? behind the steering wheel? or near the horn its self?

    Thanks.

ok, as far as i know all the relays are in the fuse box. all in a line, have a look on the ORIGINAL fuse box cover and it should tell you what does what.
From memory the horn is a square relay on the top left whereas the indicators are a cylinder on the top right.

You don't want to connect the ammeter to the horn relay do you? That would be intermittent.

Ok. If you want to connect it to say the alternator to see the current, connect one side of the ammeter to the battery +12v and the other side to the alternator output post. But doing this means you have to remove the alternator wire to the battery.
Remember, to measure current, the current needs to flow through the meter (the same way a multimeter measures current) or it won't work.
If say you wanted to hook it up to your horn, you would need to cut the wire that comes from your horn relay that goes to the battery and wire the ammeter 'between' the wires so the current flows completely through the meter and not any way bypassed.

    Hope this helps Goon

There basically is a post with a wire coming off it and then there is a capacitor connected to another terminal. The ground is the alternator itself i.e: grounded to the chassis.

The wire coming from the post might not be red but usually is. If your wiring is dodgy, I'd replace that while you are at it.
