Hi all

long time reader first time poster lolz, anyway I have a question;

i have a multimeter and i dont have any idea how to use it! my VB has a electrical problem with the lights not working, and someone told me it can be fixed with the multimeter is this true? Heres a picture of it ive never used one before, so any help or ideas would be wicked-cool

the problem is the headlihgts dont come on anymore, and only the left side indicator works. someone told me fuses need to be replaced but i need to use a multimeter. theres so many options on it though and i dont know wat is wat or where to plug it into

thanks in advance

To check your fuses you just need to look at them, if they are charred, theyre burnt out, if the metal strip/band is broken, its blown.
Both means it needs replacing.
But the indicators should be on a different fuse, this could be a buggered relay or simply loose connections.

A common fault is the headlight switch itself. These can burn out. Replace that and see if the head/tailights work.

you can test 12v stuff mate, by setting it to 20 DCV. top left hand corner if im not mistaken... my meter is abit older.

I test 12v wires, accessorys, fuses and the battery with that setting.

testing negtive wires, i usally do this by runniung the metal across a surface until i get a zap i no it's live then :p
testing postive wires, red needle on postive wire, black needle on metal surface. anything above 12 is good eg . for a battery mine kicksover at 12.74..

remember red is postive, black is negtive.

set scale on Voltage D.C - double rated voltage eg 12 v use 20V scale.

Make sure you select you meter on Volts Not Amps this will damage the meter or the HRC fuse inside if it is an expensive brand.

You can also use ur Ohm scale ie resistance to test continuity in a d.c, well impedence in A.C

I am an Electrican :)
