Just wondering if anyone knows the approx weight of a 253 motor with heads and the carb on. Oil in sump also. Thanks.
Hmmm 200kgs give or take.

Is that a complete guess? I sort of need to know close to what it is because I need to shift it with a trolley which I don't want to break and haven't got an engine crane. Cheers.
well some ppl say that the 308 weighs 220kgs. What sort of trolly are you going to sit the 253 on?

Thanks mate. I think I will take what you say... IN
Basically I am going or planning to use a steel trolley borrowed off a neighbour and it isn't the cheap Bunnings crappy type, it's an old sturdy trolley well made. Then I was going to use a car tyre with it. So basically, put the motor onto the car tyre which is sitting on the trolley and cart it horizontally. I hope that works and nothin' breaks. I thought the motor would be half a ton. If only 200 K's then great.
Yeah that trolly should work fine. Heck moved a 308 once in a rusted out wheel barrow once, it didn't break! That old tyre trick works wonders too.

I did lift a 6 cyl 202 red motor with 2 other blokes once and that was heavy enough!

Yeah a guy who had moved a lot of motors said that the tyre trick is always a good way to cart them![]()
I ended up abandoning the trolley and tyre trick. I thought I might break the neighbours trolley :my:
Ended up using a trolley jack and wheeling it along. I never thought these things would weigh so much. I'd never do it again without a crane of some sort.
I was reading my Commodore spec book, says a 308 with everything on it/in it weighs 219kgs. Didn't think a 253 would way that much.
But its great to hear hat you got the 253 is out.

Heh. All I had to do was take it off a trailer and transport it 15 metres. It felt like a lot more than 200K's. Maybe because the gearbox and oil was in the motor making it heavier.
