G'day,
Just wondering if anyone knew whether there is a difference between a tow bar that came off a 6cyl VK or a V8 VK? Is the V8 one the same as a 6cyl one?
Also while I am at it, where does it mount?
theres a couple of mounting points through the floor in the boot just to the rear of the fuel tank. theres two long bolts that protrude forwards from the rear face of the axle hump. if its a factory towbar then the long bar part spans under the fueltank to these two sets of attachment points. as far as i know, theres no difference between 6 and 8cyl mointing points. one thing to wtch though is there is bracing fitted from factory just inside each rear quarter panel, these are to stop distortion or flex of the panels by giving more rigidity in the back end. there is also heavy gusset panels inside the boot where the attachment points are.
if ur after a factory towbar i have one sittin out the back you can have, have the gussets too i think. youd have to get the bracing from a wreckers, al the same from vb to vk as far as i know. PM me if you need it.
From memory I think only the wagon Tow bars are diffrent.Got mine from the wreckers for $30.Scrubbed it up & painted it, "looks like a bought one"The father in-law & I put mine on in 20 mins, mind you the Fuel Tank & Bumper Bar was out so we could do it easier.Just beware of the end 2 bolts nearest the fuel tank. they are the only ones poking downwards, take it carefully around there.Get your car up nice & high so you can get under it safely.Use Axle Stands...
