Any suggestions on what to replace the rocker cover breather (the one that normally goes to the air filter housing) with? It's on a 202. The normal one has fallen out and isn't a very good fit anyway. We ended up just running without anything in it on the weekend, but need to replace it soon.
It's a race car so doesnt' matter if it is legal or not.

we've still got it, but it is an annoying little piece of tubing that goes to the airfilter, and has a habit of falling off

Replace the grommet. Also get a larger size elbow to fit tight. Mine doesn't fit that well and when I get my new covers, I will relocate it and get new grommets.
Renew the hose if it's gone hard.
Hey, if its what im thinking it is its a piece of plastic tubing with a right angled bend in it, mine used to fall out as well.
I was looking for inspiration at found the metal handle on the broom was the perfect diameter tube so now my broom handle is a little shorter.
I added come small barbs to the tube to help hold it into the rubber hose and it never came off after that.
Why not run an oil catch can with a breather on that? you would be surprised how much oil it will catch and not get recycled back though the engine.
cheers
Scott

pretty much a stock 202. it has extractors, which i think are the ones that were fitted to the VK, as the exhaust diagram in my workshop manual looks exactly like what we pulled off of the car. all it runs now are hte extractors and about 1m of pipe exiting under the passengers door.Originally Posted by Goon
the air filter housing has been modified, the snorkel was cut back so there is a bigger gap. both headlights have been removed so airflow is improved.
as for the rest of the car, it has been fully stripped, and i mean fully. the only things left are the seat, steering wheel and a patch of carpet under the drivers seat which i haven't got around to removing. as a result, the car sits a good 2 inches higher, and spins the wheels in 2nd at speed. made for excellent fun at the motorkhana i entered yesterday.
back on topic, the car copped a bit of a flogging yesterday, with no breather hooked up. there was no sign of oil on the underside of the bonnet. what does the breather actually do?

Just emmision control. In your case it doesn't matterOriginally Posted by vh-holden
If you have an exhaust pipe sticking out the side, you might as well remove the air cleaner rocker cover hose.
what kind of race car is it and what are you competing in? im facsinatedOriginally Posted by vh-holden

it is eventually going to be speedway, but i've just gone and caught the motorkhana bug. the car is not set up for any form of motorsport (it isnt' really any good on the street either). If i can find out more about the motorkhana scene up here, i might see about doing that more seriously. It's a killer on the tyres but is physically and mentally demanding.
we have a long way to go for speedway, they are a bit more strict on the safety aspect of the car. motorkhana being a relatively low speed event doesn't have as strict rules.
i might even get out and drift it at one of the local meets if i can.
