Hey guys, as the thread says post what sort of fuel consumption your getting per 100km. I'm mainly interested in EFI 202's.
The computer in my car says i'm averaging 22km/100km with fairly sedate driving... I read in the shop manaul that there are a few things that can cause excessive consumption, but before I try anything I'd like to know what everyone else gets.
Cheers! Mike
my trip computer in my vk berlina doesnt work, but i get around 220km to a full tank in my EFI 202
so sick of it..![]()
i used half a litre on one corner. kinda took it a little fast and the petrol rushed up and out the filler.
ECOTEC KICKED IN yO!!!!!!

But also if I have afternnons (IE less traffic) then I get more that week....
Stoping & starting in traffic kills me
Plus I get a good L/K on mine.... I have got it as high as 49L/100K lol But is usually under 15L/100K at all times.
D.
Just woundering what does that work shop manual say about excessive consumption i have a efi 202 and ma computer say i use round 20L/100KM sucks it almost like an 8Originally Posted by Wrayza

hows this for bad mate, i drive around 5 k's under the speed limit most of the time and use around 65L for 170kms, have to use octane 98 too or the engine doesn't run too well, so it's a little more expensive. Realllly hurts the pocket. It is probably the same amount as paying for a taxi everywhere. It's fun to drive cause I can get powerslides out of the corners and stuff but I'm gonna look for an LPG set up in my next ride.
oh and btw, check your float level n stuff in your carby (ideally put a kit through it) if you use a carby, it has been a problem with a friends VK which, when fixed improved economy. Run your ride a little to the lean side, and replace the air filter regularly, it'll help improve economy. I'd do all of the above again but atm I'm lookin for an ecotec, my engine is well and truly rooted.
Thanks for the replies guys, mixed results.. I've heard of people getting 12-15L, if I got 15L I'd be more than happy.
Anyway, tonight a mate and I removed the injectors from the old girl and gave them a good 10min clean with white spirits in an ultrasonic cleaning bath. The fluid was grotty as afterwards, but it hasn't seemed to help the economy.
Drifting1, the shop manual says:
Excessive Fuel Consumtion
(1) Incorrect fuel pressure: Check connections and opperation.
(2) Faulty auxiliary air valve : Check connections and operation.
(3) Faulty air and/or coolant temperature sensors: Check connections and operation.
(4) Faulty fuel injectors: Check connections and operation.
(5) Leaks in fuel supply system: Check connectors and condition of hoses.
(6) Faulty air flow meter: Check connections and operation.
(7) Faulty control unit: Check connections and, if available, substitute a known serviceable unit.
(8) Incorrect air cleaner element: Check element and renew as necessary.
ok than thanks for that
VK 202 EFI's are shocking on fuel. Something about the car either not suckin enough air or too much or something. Mine was doing about 22L/100kms and as high as 31L/100kms...even after the injectors were cleaned, fuel pump changed, fuel regulator changed, new spark plugs, new engine temp sensor and tune up...nothing seemed to help it...so I got rid of it. I really don't care about paying for fuel, but I get angry when I have to pay for a car that isn't powerful and doesn't go anywhere...at the money I was paying for fuel...would've rather had a V8 or a turbo car or something...at least then its worth it. Holden made a big mistake with the 202...adding EFI was an even bigger mistake...worst...
Crossed over to the dark side...
used to get 18L/100kms in a very heavily modified 202 in an LX torana, would drop to 25L-30L/100kms if i flogged the arse off it, back in the day when AVGAS was 95cpl and then 1.05cpl
it's not an efi, or a 202 but i'm getting 350-420km per tank depending how i drive my 253
i get around 300 km on a tank of gas driving to the city and back.... and thats only $20 of gas maximum.... I rekon its worth it

Wow. Can't believe these figures I'm seeing!
I can get up to 12/100 highway out of my carby VK. Around 14.5 city. It's pretty shocking but I can deal with it... but nowhere near as bad as the figures most of you guys are quoting!
vk efi is a horror pig unless its kept in perfect tune.
mine avgs 15l/100 around town driving normally, down to about 12-13 on the highway at 110...which is relatively leadfoot, but not flat stick. after studying it for years and endless fiddles...ive found: make sure vac advance is working on the dizzy and is correctly connected to ported vacuum. advance the timing by ear until it is optimum...and not pinging. keep all ign shit in perfect order, dont adjust the airflow meter too lean...u will just use more accelerator. adjusting the spring inside one click tighter can help. the main difference was made by one bottle of holden top engine cleaner at the right dose. the only one i have EVER used that made any difference. especially to its starting. start with that. 20 bucks..cant go wrong.
Dude thats pretty close to what it should be. My EFI 202 gets 10kms/1L on the open road and around 7kms/1L in town.Originally Posted by drifting1
