Hi people,
Just wondering since the vk tuned pretty well for gas to make it gas only what involved besides taking out tank, lines, pump n filter

Seeing that you don't want it duel fuel anymore, if you want to go the full length, you can get a gas only mixer that virtually replaces your carb and you can rid all of the emission gear including all fuel lines and whatever. I have never played around with replacement mixers because I am happy enough with my duel fuel. Afterall, the carby is useless really when it's on gas. The majority of its functions aren't used. That's why the gas mixer is stuck on which acts like a carb as it has a diaphragm which opens and closes with the vacuum.
Try a google search on Impco gas gear or check ebay as there is bits and pieces from US sellers.
yeah well basically i would remove the carby and get a mixer for it
cool cheers fellas um with the emission crap is it possible just to block it all?...also i found acouple of those gas only mixers how do i know wich size to get for eg there's 1 off a 250crossflow would that fit?

you could block it all off, but it would look neater if you jsut take it all out, icluding fuel tank and pump. as for the size im not sure but someone else may help with that
gas conversion u relly sound like u dnt know wat ur doing the car needs to run on petrol at least once a week for about a day or you'll stufff 1 ov ur vales or even ur motor i ran my motor on duel fuel my fuel pump kicked it & ran on gas only about 2-3 months then started to run really bad in other words like s@ht anyway wouldnt bother cost me a secondhand fuel pump 4 $50 because do juice & the motor is making a noise when i just got it fixed 2 weeks before this hapened. better of running straight petrol wat kind ov motor u got black efi 3.3? anyway need petrol running once in a while to lubricate ur valves & motor wnt last long with just gas in other words thats why they call it duel fuel the gas runs on 95% gas % 5% petrol u r dreaming if u ask me!!! dream on nimrod...

you just need to get the head rebuilt for lpg.. thatll fix most of the possible problems..

yeah get the heads rebuilt for gas, maybe change the cam to suit gas, if you wanted to go the whole hog some new pistons and pushrods and lifters would go alright, im definatelt going straight gas with my 202 in my VB, do it properly once and it should be alright, engine should last the same as petrol if done properly,
anyways, thats my opinion
Flashlube is your friend if u dont want to go to the expense of getting heads done.
As for VK1981, wtf, u hardly made any sence. . . . .
Dont post unless u have something usefull to contribute. . . .

Ive been running gas only in my car for over a year now, it was dual fuel and i removed the fuel pump, lines and tank and i drive the car every day. the car runs fine, ive had no problems at all, except having to adjust timing and stuff to run a bit better on just gas..either ur motor was shit, or u just dont know what ur doing coz my car runs just fine mateOriginally Posted by VK1981
If you want to run gas only.. check out http://www.gasresearch.com.au/ been running it on my 253 for the last six months. starts first time every time and my fuel cost per week has dropped from $70/80 to $40
may i suggest something? why not use the vk efi manifold and throttle body to run straight gas?
u will improve power and economy with the longer runners on the efi intake and will look alot better my opinon anyway.
remove the est and fit a efi elec dizzy as it will suit gas better as the est is to retarted in timing.
head rebuilt yes, lpg cam is questionable some of them are actually worse. but he wont need to change anything else unless its worn and needs replacement.Originally Posted by potshots007
biggest thing is the harshness of the gas theres no lubricant, so either run a lubricant additive or have head built for lpg. and if u r doing ur head, up ur compression to about 10.5\11:1 at the same time. as this is the biggest reason why lpg performs badly its like running a turbo of boost all the time lpg optimal compession is around 11.5\12:1.
if u built the engine properly to suit gas u will achive better performance and exellent ecconomy over pulp![]()
in a hz fitted with a hot 308 my fathers ute which i built gets 500km out of 66L
anyway totally up to u on which way u go but look at impco for mixers for the efi intake others brands quality is questionable imho.
or if ur got the $$$$$$$ go gra but expect to fork out $$$$ on dyno time to set up the lpg system as the gas carb needs to be tuned and jetting size set on dyno but most quality gra installers will include this in the quote thats why the install is so expencive on gra but well worth it![]()

Gas cam makes a noticeable difference, combined with the correct timing and you will achieve equal power to running petrol. As for the head it takes lots of K's for valve recession to occur, like 20,000 or so and it may not even occur so just drive it until theres a problem then get the head done with hardened inserts.
