wen i start my vk i find i have to put so much fuel throu it each time to get it started and wen it starts i have to keep about 2000rpm for abouit 20 seconds over whys it just cuts out can any one help solve this
also i find even wen i drive it the tep is siting very low were should it be sitting could this be somthing to do with my thermostat not closing to let it warm up b4 it opens
You could try simply removing the thermostat.
But, on your carburettor, there is a fast idle cam which is a latch facing the left front strut tower. Take the air cleaner off and when the motor is cold, pull on the throttle lever which is the one which has a phillips head screw on it and the cam should snap close meaning the choke valve is closed. The phillips head screw can be adjusted for idle speed and the cam has steps on it as you'd see to set how fast the idle will be set when warming up. The idle speed when cold should be over 1000 rpm and when warmed up it should drop to about 850-900. Just play around with it a bit, but don't fiddle with stuff if you think you might not know how to put it back together.![]()

I'm with slim on this one. Fast idle cam most likely. Also check that the linkage is attached, as the plastic frommits that hold them in can get brittle, snap and the linkage can come free.
You should be bale to see the linkage when you remove the air filter, look from the back (your head between the firewall and the carbie).
Alternately, it could be a choke issue.
question: on my carby wen i take off the air filter there are to holes with valves one i know is the accelorater but the other one was not closing is that the choke i have sorted out the idle thing it had sliped off any way is that small valve hole the choke
on my carby there are to valves on the top a small one and a big one wat one is the choke or accelerator wen should they be open wehn should they close ect
They should both be closed when the car is cold and when warm, the choke valve will be open. If one is open when cold, press the accellerator and the choke valve should close.
DO NOT REMOVE THE THERMOSTAT, its there for a reason, to hold water in the block until it has reached a certain temperature and conversely when the car is warm it holds water in the radiator to cool it. remove your thermostat if you want shit fuel economy as the car willl take forever to warm up because your trying to get the engine to heat up the entire contents of the cooling system rather than just the volume held in the block. you'll find also in summer that by runnin a cool thermostat your car will run a little cooler because the coolant has actually had the chance to cool in the radiator, off topic i know.
I only suggested it so he could possibly diagnose the problem he is having.Originally Posted by Cane_It
