    Default VK Pod Filter

Gday Every1, I have an EFI 6 cylinder.. I've just bought a pod filter for her. It came with a chrome pipe that fits to where the old plastic piping went onto the injection manilfold. i just have a question regarding the air sensor that is on top of the old air filter box. How does the car run without this? I mean it is bypassed, im doing away with old box completely including the plastic piping. Does the sensor have to operate for the car to run? or run properly?

yeah, you'll need the a/f sensor... best spot for it is between the air pod and the chrome piping.

ok sweet. but how does it work. what i mean is... the unit is connected to the top of the old filter box. i can just remove it from that and install it between the pod and the pipe?

I hate to let you down but you wont get any performance gain out of the pod filter. Restrictions on the intake system are at the airflow meter which you will need to bolt the pod onto
To actually remove the AFM will require after market engine management which will cost some $$$
Unless your just putting it on to say I have a pod filter, theres not much point fitting it.

but if you must fit it, remove the AFM fromt he air box 4x10mm bolts on the inside of the airbox, make up a bracket to mount the AFM then have a flanged pipe you can drill 4 holes into to mount the pod onto the AFM.

Also your air filter must be enclosed in a box (air box) actually having a pod filter is illegal and you can get a canary for it. If you want a good reusable filter check out the K & N panel filters that fit into your airbox. I have mine off my VK for sale at the moment, see link below.

    cheers

I have heard that from many people that pod filters are good and from others i have heard that they are no good. why is this?
also do other air filters give more performance?

Of with Air intake think of it like a pipe with many joins and sizes, you have the initial pipe in to the air box then through the AFM to the throttle body through the intake manifold into the head and out the valves intot he combustion chamber.

On a VK you have lots of flow with the intake manifold, throttle body, piping etc but have a look at the siz eof the hole the air goes through at the throttle body. Its tiny compared to the rest. So removing a restriction at the airfilter end wont do anything if the bottle neck is still at the airflow meter.

The other restriction is the valves in the head 2 areas you need to spend big $$$ on to gain performance.

    cheers

Same deal with a panel filter the restriction is at the AFM & valves in the head, the only thing you may hear louder induction noise with a pod or panel filter making you think its going harder .
I noticed an improvement with I added a panel filter & removed the AFM and installed my haltec. It was only in a month and I pulled it off the road to fit the 5L.

    cheers

Ok wot is the AFM and a haltec i know it might be obvious to u and a stupid question but if i dont ask i wont learn. Also would it be the same problem with the CAI. U say that know matter how much air the filter sucks in because of the size of the inlet but wouldn't it gather more air than the stock one so that if the stock filter does not take in the maximum amount of air?

    AFM = Air Flow Meter

Haltec is a company that produces engine management systems. Basically replacing the original computer in the car with a programable one, they use different sensors to the originals in the VK but on a modified EFI 202 you get better fuel economy, more power. The stock computer cant handle a heavily modified 202, when I had mine it would either run lean in high RPM (very bad) or tuned the other way very rich down low RPM (used to foul spark plugs when cold)

To give you an idea on how well a standard EFI VK air filter flows the VL walkinshaw runs the exact same air filter as the EFI VK, feeding twin throttle bodies and an engine requiring alot more air. The restriction on the EFI VK is mainly the size of the AFM.

    cheers
