you may need a 6cyl crossmember, front suspension and probably a tailshaft?? not sure on the diff cause they may be different, but someone on here will know for sure if the starfires have different suspensions and diffs etc. usually need to ugrade the front struts or springs to suit the extra weight of the engine??![]()
its got a 3.9:1 ratio i believe (according to gregory's manual) and its a salsibury according to the manual..
i had a feeling i would need the front suspension changed.. i know it needs a different exhaust..

engine cross member is the same accross all models 4cyl, 6cyl & V8, you will just need the appropriate engine mounts.
I am pretty sure that the gearbox will bolt up to a 202 you will just need the 6cyl bell housing, maybe clutch & of course flywheel as well.
You may need to change accellorator cable.
You will need to change front springs
Brakes im pretty sure are the same as a 6cyl commodore anyway.
Im pretty sure the diff is different (weaker), so an upgrade in that department is likely to be needed.
cheers

Um... All cars have a crankshaft. Why would you have to retime the 202?Originally Posted by Goon

The Six will bolt up to the 4cyl transmission and engine mountings no problems. Front springs, sway bay and brakes are different. A rear sway bar needs to be added. The 4cyl diff can be used but you will need to fit 6cyl axals and brakes as the stud patterns are slightly different. You will need to use 6cyl rims as well.Tail shaft is the same. On the exhaust side only the engine pipe needs changinig.Radiator is the same but hoses and fan shroud need changing. All other engine connections are the same. ie. throttle cable and wiring loom.
Hi there
I am looking into doing a very similar conversion on my VH wagon.
I have a 202, Commie 5speed, correct 6 cylinder front crossmember and suspension.
I will use the F & R 4cyl brakes as they are comparable in size and I already have wheels that fit the smaller 4cyl stud pattern.
What I would like to know is will the driveshaft and g/box crossmember be the same from a 4cyl manual g/box to a 6cyl manual g/box.
Many thanks in advance
Chris (NZ)
Is the 4cyl gearbox a 4 or 5 speed box. If it is a five speed the tailshsft will be the same, if it is a 4 speed it will be different. The crossmembers are the same.
My Garage:
VZ SS 6ltr 6 speed silver
VN 5ltr 5 speed Gold (Ex NSWPF Highway Patrol)
VH EFI 5ltr Supra 5 speed tiger mica
XC Barina SRI 1.8ltr 5 speed silver
4 cyl is a 5 spd - so the 6 cyl 5 spd will bolt up to the crossmember and have the correct driveshaft.
Thank you very much - makes my upcoming conversion so much easier...
the 4 cyl commodores used a torana stud pattern ..
