I bought some VR/VS map pockets/door pods on saturday, im going to be spraying them black.
I have some black VHT vinyl paint, will that do?
Also i don't want to cut holes in my doors for the speakers, ive measured up and my speakers will fit in the pods without a hole in the door, what could i use to hold them in place, i dont really want to just sit the speakers in there..
thanks in advance![]()
As far as i was aware, you would have to cut the trim, and thru the metal in the door fitting those pods, just get a good pair for 2 way 4" speakers for your dash.

I had to cut a hole in both the door trim and the door but don't dispair, there is HEAPS of metal there to mount and you dont comprimise the door structural integrity. A ordinary jigsaw with a blade that is designed to cut metal works well.
Failing that, I'm sure that you can pick up shallow speaker for the older car's doors. Ask at an caraudio shop that specialises in them. If you can pick those up you might get away with mounting those in extenders without cutting metal.
The VS covers are screwed in from behind on the door trim and the cardboard material that they are made from wont support the weight of a speaker so you have little choice but to mount the actual speker into the door metal.
As for colour, make sure you get some plastic trim primer and prime the plastic before you paint it or it will chip off really easily.
Have a look at these for ideas.
Good luck

ive tested the speakers, they're pretty shallow ones and will sit inside the speaker pods when the pod is pushed up against the door, i dont mind screwing into the door trim i just dont want a big gaping hole in it
yeah I know what you mean. I grimaced a few times when I started cutting into my car but the end result was well worth it.
I really dont think that the trim will support the weight of the speakers. It will be ok at first but they will eventually sag and wreck the whole deal.
You'll need to at least put the screws through into the steel. As long as the magnet has a few mm's clearance of the door trim so they don't touch anything, they will work and as long as you screw through the trim to the steel the job should last.

if you are using the vr pods you might have to cut holes in the doors to get them to sit right thats what i had to do but i mounted the behind the trims..... just an opinionOriginally Posted by VK_308

I understand that you don't want to cut your car up but if you want this to look right, that may be the only option. I found that the mount was excellent this way.
See how you go with your idea first, afterall you can always go that way later if it doesn't work to your satifaction.

what do you mean you mounted them behind the trims?Originally Posted by bitch
