Gday every1, my vk has a few problems that i can see. id liek to get em all fixed. im relitively sure that she needs regassing, i just reconnected the air con pully (which was removed before i bought the car), ok so i get the belt on, switch on my air con... nothing... needs regassing. The switch for the fan in the vk ( 1 -4) has decided it will only work when switched to 4, the other 3 dont work!! and then the confussing layout of the vent flow system decides that it wont let the vents closest to the doors (on the dash) work in any mode. Hey... the heater works lol
Sound like you have a few different issues going on.
1. now A/C system JUST needs regassing, plenty of places will do it but you will be back to werre you are now within a few months, get a leak test done, fix the leak then get it regassed, and this will need to be done by a pro, and it wont be cheap around $180 just to find the leak, any repair will be on top of that, you also will need to convert the current system to run the newer R134a gass as the old R12 should still be available.
2. The switch is a common problem in VK and VLs $40 to replace the resistor switch or get a secong hand one and hope it doesnt have the same problem
3.when you say vent flow system, i'm assuming you mean the vacum controls that switch the air flow to different systems you will need to pull out the A/C controls and check that the lines are all still connected and in the right place as per below
Number three (3) Goes into the recirculation valve right near the blower fan.
Number four (4) Goes through the firewall and connects to the engine (Vac supply)
Number five (5) Goes to a small one way valve (White and black round thing) on the drivers side near the firewall and disapears behind the heater box.
Number eight (8) goes to a actuator near the steering coloum with a rod and a lever on it, its close to the front of the dash and i think the lever pushes down.
Number nine (9) goes to a actuator behind the ciggie lighter area.
Everything else has a rubber blocking teet on it, all up i think there was four.
hell yeah, got my drivers vents working thanks dude. as for the regass... not worried, for that price, windows down same job, im happy about the resistor though, i will get one so i can use different fan settings, thanks heaps mate, really helpful.
