ok ive got a workmate whos offered me some 17'' vt ss wheels with good tread, but i have heard on the grapevine that they dont fit up and some sort of modification has to be done to fit on the hub? the vk has disc front and drum rear.
hope u guys can fill me in on this
cheers cam
should fit straight on i think. i've never herd that they wouldnt be4
they will fit straight on, i had a mate a few years ago who put vt ss's on his vk calais and he had no dramas.
All commo's have the same stud pattern, so the latest HSV or Monaro rims would fit on a VB, the only problem you may encounter would be if they are 17x8 and you had super-low springs, then you would need the guards rolled.
But in short, yes they will fit, i can gaurantee it, i have seen about a million early model commodores with VT SS rims![]()

the problem is with the big round bit that sticks through the middle of the wheel. there was a slight change in size with the vt. the wheels still bolt on, but are only held on by the nuts, and not supported fully by the hub. whether this is an issue or not....?
ECOTEC KICKED IN yO!!!!!!
Thats it vh-holden, the bit that sticks out(i can't remember the name) is the issue. Cause all the strain is ment to on that part. But putting VS-VE rims onto a VB-VR all the strain is on the studs and it can break them.

i thought it was vt onwards. vs wheels are the same as vb-vr

I think late VS they changed. Might be series II.

Hub centre is the same size on all commodores. 70mm
the VT's have a stepup to 71.5mm for the disk, but wheel is still 70mm. The only problems that can be encountered are some alloy wheels don't allow for the wheel bearing caps that are on VB to VP commodores. as VR and latter have sealed hubs that don't poke through as far.
hey guys yeah thanks for the comments.. thats what ive heard with the centre dish piece on the vt ss rims.. i guess all i can do is try them on and go from there. i dont want the nuts to take the load of the wheel. the hub has to. i know mates who have aftermarket rims and doesnt have a plastic hub ring with the nuts taken the load. one even cracked his rim.. but another has been all good.
why on earth did they change the vt hub diameter!! the mind boggles
cheers, cam
Alot of car companies change the wheels on each model or every couple of models (they have on the falcon), so i guess we should be happy with the freedom in choice of wheels that we have.
Nah thats all BS mate. I have 235 x 45 x 17 on my standard hub VK. they fit with heaps of room. Could prbably go to 19's without too much trouble.Originally Posted by vk_dog_208

Well that will depend on the ride height, i have super lows with 235x45 17's and they scraped really bad (only the fronts), and the guards needed to be rolled.Originally Posted by darkmoon
yep. That would be a suspension issue rather than hubs.

Im planning on putting 17s on my VH SLE soon and have friends with them on there vbs and vcs and havent had any problems. One of them put them on to go over the pits a couple of months back in perth before i moved to adelaide. He also had super lows on his commodore without any scrubbing.
No big deal untill the wheel studs let go one day (probably as you go over a railway line or some other big bump) Depending on how many break, things can get a tad excitingOriginally Posted by vh-holden

IIRC VT onwards had a different offset to the earlier cars too. Your insurance company would probably have issues with 17" wheels on a VK.

my mate bryce had cut springs (2 coils lol) on his (my) vk and he had vx 17" rims and it only rubbed around corners and bumps in the roadOriginally Posted by Jimboss
I had 235x45x17 on my VKC, fronts scraped like a bitch on sharp corners & bumpsfront wasnt lowered either. I would say roll your gaurds anyways. Not worth the hassle if they 'might' scrape or not....
& 17's are legal on the Calais because it came factory with 15's.
Mate of mine has 19's on his VK..... & with gaurds rolled he still scrapes lol wayyyyyy low that thing is..... hehehehehehe
D.
i've got 235x45x17's on my VK, it doesnt scrape at all. but it is stock height..
Back to the original question, I had VT SS rims on my VK, It had s/low kings, adj panhard rod & it NEVER scraped once. I was going to fit 16" walkinshaw rims but they will only fit with four wheel discs as the rear of the rim is machined to fit over the hub to get the offset right for the VL(genuine rims only, the cheap n nasty copies will fit drums).
i have VT clubsprt rims on my vk, never had a problem, they have been on for about a year now.
Rego is only an issue in certain states I think. I don't know about other states but in NSW you can oly go 1" bigger without a new tyre placard.
17's are perfectly safe on a VK/VL as long as they don't touch the body. I have 17's on my VK with standard suspesion and it never scrapes on corners, driveways, speedhumps or bumps in the road.
Go for it, you'll love 'em

just for the record ve wheels dont fit earlier commies
Hey Guys,
Just some techy notes worth considering when changing Rims and Tyres on any model Commodore..
You just need to make sure the rim Offset is the same. You will find that most alloy VN model and upward rims are a different offset or PCD than earlier model Commodore rims, that not only makes them illegal (if you get caught) but also makes your car unsafe as it alters the geometry of your suspension, track etc... There is more to rim fitment than "the stud pattern is right". Better off sticking Calais/SLE or AERO rims for original look and making sure aftermarket rims are the correct fitment for your model commodore.
As far as rim diametre is concerned you can at most go "plus 2" which means two sizes bigger diameter rim than standard fitment, but only with lower profile tyres so your overall "rolling Diameter" is the same as standard.
Messing with the wrong wheels will not only be dangerous to the handling of the car, you will be sure that in the event of an accident you're insurance company will not cover you or anyone or thing you have hit... very expensive!!!
Finally ENV5 is right... VE wheels will not fit ANY other model commodore and the new VE SS is sweet...... love to get one... come on lotto...
