Default Fuel Pump Wiring Loom Colours

[QUOTE=Countess]Can some one tell me what colour the wire is in the loom for the fuel pump???

Ok Countess, according to the Bible(Gregory's Manaul) the fuel pump colours are Y Yellow to the fuel pump. D Tan fuel level sensor. It's under pressure at arnd 150psi from memory even if the car isn't running, similar set up to a Diesel eng.The Exect's have no internal fuel pump & rely on the old steam powered mechanical fuel job & have no inbuilt internal pressure.I think it's the same loom 4 the V8's in colours only the system ins't under pressure.Hope that helps if not give me a holler.!!

K the story is, finaly decided to fix my stereo/brake light problem by running a new powerwire straight to the battery.

Also fuel pump has been playing up ever since I got the car, quick bash with whatever I have handy fixes it & Im on my way.

Now.... problem..... did we damage the wiring by accident yesterday when running the wire for stereo thru the firwall..... or has the fuel pump picked now to die properly????

Car starts & dies, cant hear the pump at all. Checked fuses & relays.

I guess what I am asking is do you think its the pump? Or is it a wiring problem... IE pump not getting power now??

I'd sat its the pump as the wires don't run through the firewall. I THINK they run along it to the efi relay and into the fuse box you could use a test light at the fuel pump end to check to see if there's power there if there's power then it more than likely be the pump

okies, I know there is a thread here somewhere about checking fuel pressure?? Tried searching & I think all that petrol has affected my brain. I cant find it. Link me please???

***Update*** - Wiring defintly ka-put..... so new wire & yay have pump making all the right noises.... But car still not going - Suspected that maybe this damage was the last straw for dodgy pump & have now replaced it.

SAME PROBLEM..... I dont think it is getting fuel still... ??? Fuel pump sounds as if its working, but as I said still not seeming to get fuel to keep it going

There could be something earthing out after u installed the new wiring.

Maybe you might have shortern something out.

I can read that your fuel pump has been a problem for you in the past, but have u considered installing a new pump or buying a repair kit?

Maybe its your mixer screw if it has one, thats if you've had this issue since day one of the car and you have as i can read, shes could be out of a tune a bit with the fuel side.

    Just trying to help

I was thinking of the mixer screw to be something like the level of fuel being allowed into the engine and to burn.

Now i think a wire as came lose and the connection isnt good enough when u installed the new wire, if u used your hands and not a coat hanger to thread the wire pass certain areas, then maybe so...

Do you have spark? I remember i had a problem with my old efi i thought it was the efi relay turns out it was new coil decided to pack it in. When you crank it do you get injector pulse? (plug a test light into injector plug) You could try unpluging the fuel rail turn the keys on acc (i think) and see if the pumps pumping fuel up to the motor. Have you considered a blocked fuel line? Does it just wind over with no signs of starting? if you got no pulse might be the relay or maybe efi unit but i don't know if you can fry one of these

its starts, then dies. So me thinks no fuel is the issue lol. Tried checking volume at the end of the fuel rail, no fuel at all

Thats when new pump went in.... still same so injectors not working maybe? Car still starts, then dies.

The way it works i thimk if you don't have have pulse the car won't start so if it starts and dies then i'd say you got spark, pulse and compression(we'll assume that) so you need fuel. With ignition on you can hear the fuel pump like a low buzz droning? It's got fuel in the tank i assume? maybe a blocked line? try blowing into the line and have someone listen for bubbles in the tank (hold on that won't work) try unplugging it at both ends and put compressed air or something through it.

yeah rewired up new power for the fuel pump, definetly making all the right noises, both the old pump & the new one just fitted.

Car was running fine, we turned it off, disconnected battery, ran a new power wire to battery thru firewall, re-connected battery, & problem!!!!!

So heres where I think its all in the wiring, cus thats the only thing that could have casued this surely? We must have damaged something when putting new wire thru the firewall I drove it not 30mins before this happened!

I'll throw another cast here but when I've messed with anything electrical on my Calais I have to reset things thru the immob or I get sh*t.I have to close all the doors, bonnet & boot then press reset or nothing(stereo incl)& it'll keep beeping like a smoke alarm.Dunno if it's just my immob or they all do it.The fuel lines are under extreme pressure in the EFI's & need bleeding from memory if you run out of fuel or in your case changing the fuel pump. That's why they run the big solid metal filters under the arse because the pressure would burst the plastic types. When I turn on the ignition I can hear a quick buzz from the fuel pump as it immidiately pressurises, especially in her EFI Berlina.Sorry for raving the obvious if you knew that already. As for a wiring issue I'm not much good there, I could help you to rewire it to pre-ignite with my wiring skills.I lack the experience, old age perhaps, a complete idiot maybe, or all of the above...I have all 3 variants of the black motor here & they've all been very naughty at one stage or another..
