It isnt a big issue dropping the LS1 its all the other little things like the starter motor needs to be relocated from the drivers side to the passengers side, exhaust is a little tight.
If you want to run other extras like power steering, airconditioning etc they will all take a little effort.

I would check out CRS kits before Rod Hatfield sold the company their stuff was first class, I havent bought off them since (havent needed anything)doubt the quality or service would have changed though.

But like any engine conversion it will take a little bit of thinking ok well allot of thinking but it can be done.

    cheers

The CRS kit is crap, you still need to change a lot of stuff around. Also you would need about $20000 to get it to the point your happy with.

ive been told it needs about 5 grand worth of parts 2 fit it in (i think that was including it being installed)

i'd love 2 do it 2 my car, but i dont think its worth it

for the money it would cost build an efi 5L conversion and spending money building a 383 stroker sounds cheaper & easier

    cheers

yeah, for what i'm looking at, this seems to be the way, i'm a mechanic so will be doing alot of the work myself, plus its a project over the next 18months, so time is on my side, and so far, been told roughly around that 5-10k mark as there a cheapish motor to buy now, and the efi5ltr would cost around the 4-6k mark, plus with the power and machining needed, the ls1 doesn't need any of that, just swapping a few things around, but i'm finding out whats needed and estimates, etc, so will no in the next couple of weeks, but is looking good at the moment.

yeh and that probably isnt including fitting

i think for me anyway, i'd b better off getting a newer car with a 5L in it, save all the stuffing around and all the problems u will probably have fitting 1 in, plus u got a newer car

but lots heavier, think about it for a second, it'd be like buying a vx 5.7 for example, then removing 3-400kg of weight.

im thinkin it would probably b better getting a supercharged ecotec and chucking that in there, would b easier 2 fit wouldnt it, lots of ppl have ecotecs in vk's so it cant b 2 bad, and it would be even cheaper on fuel

wots heavier out of vh/vk and vn-vr? bodies that is

I'd say vh would lighter but not by much it'd be close. vn's are lighter than anything after them

VK SL's are the lightest of the VB-VK bodys.
Also the cost of a ecotec into a say VK is still a nice idea still a tad more expensive than a EFI 5litre. Time you get the computer all sorted out.

yeah i thought about selling my vk and 4wd and buying a vt ss or vx ss with a gen3 in it, but this is a project to take my time over and its something slightly different to every other vk, but that one is still in the back of my mind about just buying a vt or vx ss, but like the vk and 4wd.
with the ecotec, id have to change my engine mounts aswell, thought about a s/c ecotec in to my old vr, but i'm a v8 person though.
