    Default Fuel Tank Venting

Recently, I have had fuel odours coming from the fuel tank on my VK sedan and discovered the small fuel vapour hoses running from the top of the tank to the filler neck had disintegrated. So this weekend I removed the fuel tank and replaced the small vapour hoses and the large breather hose, I followed all the instructions as per the genuine Holden Commodore factory workshop manual. Last night I tried to fill the tank, only to find it would not fill past the3/4 mark. I tried to slow fill and put the bowser nozzle half in, but It kept spilling fuel out. My theory is maybe I have kinked or squashed a hose? Anyone out there has done this job before, have any ideas? Your input would be appreciated. Thank you.

well how i see it it would have to be a fair sized hole to let enough fuel out fast enough for you to notice it wont fill up past 3/4 so maybe a hose fell off as you were putting it all back together? check that. ive never taken a tank of so im guessing but always trying top help

If fuel is coming out of the tank and onto the ground the main vent hose is split or broken.
If fuel isfilling up into the filler neck, you have an air lock in the top of the tank, the air cant escape fast enough compared tot he amount of fuel getting in. Its a bit hard to fit a larger vent hose as the space in the chassis rail is only big enough for the hose thats already on it. I massaged the hold larger on my VKand fitted a larger hose I am running a VQ statesman tank which has a larger breather anyway.

I have the diagrams etc on my site. for the hoses

    cheers

We replaced all the Vent hoses on our V8 Calais. They were all perished & crumbled like stale biscuits.Did you make sure the thick vent hose was replaced thru the cut out in the rear frame first before you raised the tank into position...???Or it'll kink badly & won't fill properly as it will have a severe air lock. It's a pr*ck of a job...

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
