i am replacing my stock air filter housing with the common 5 litre ones.... just wondering about all the vac lines that go to the stock one. which ones can i block off with a screw, and which ones can be disregarded....
i am running a quadrajet on a 253.....
thanks
vac hoses are a bitch... can't really help you much on this... all I can say is good luck and have fun. Make sure you forget the old rule "If at first you don't succeed, hit it really hard!!!" This doesn't help... neither does getting frustrated and ripping the carby off and throwing it up against a brick wall... all this does is make you have to buy a new one and start all over again... definatly not helpfull! If you happen to find a good diagram of vac hoses and stuff, please let me know where... I have tried and tried with no luck!
all the best
why is monosylabic such a big word???
thanks buddy
there is like10 bloody vac lines going to the filter housing.....
where to start!
There isn't 10 vacuum hoses mounted on the air filter housing. From memory there is two I think. Not including the crankcase ventilation hose. Chuck the rest but leave the crankcase hose.Originally Posted by bigg_vin
i want to connect up a aftermarket filter housing, so i dont want to keep any of the vac lines going to the original filter housing...
and there are 5 lines going to my filter housing at the moment.
can i block them all?
there are two going to the bottom of the housing, one going to the airmatic thing, the crankcase ventilation, and also two more going to a little canister on the side of the housing.
making 5 vac lines plus the ventilation tube
I'll get back to you. I'd need to look at my manuals again to see what is what.Originally Posted by bigg_vin
I am sure not all of them would come from the carb. Some might come from the manifold connectors. I'll look into it.
thank you.....
yeah, a 202 has two lines going to the filter.....
i hope i can block em.....
i just wanted to make sure i could use a screw in all the vac lines..... or do i leave some open?
cheers
blocking up all the vac lines is going to mean the "settings" of the carby are going to be on "max" arent they?
vac advance is from the dizzy to the carby though yeah?
im just talking about blocking vac lines to the air filter.....
Yeah mate from the dizzy to the carby, with my ride the 2 air filter hose are one from the aircleaner atthe nose going to the air cleaner, the other from the manifold valve to the air cleaner "thats the one i have blocked" My six has a green and red valve on the manifold with hoses going to the carby and egr etc, i wouldnt suggest blocking those.
i wont block any that i dont have to.... hahaha
just mainly curious about the vac lines going to a small canister on the drivers side of the engine on the air filter housing.... i think the way the vac line is going is: from carb, to canister, taking reading from inside filter hosing, back to carb.... can i just join these two hoses?
thanks again
well i can definantly block that then yeah!
No it doesn't have coal or charcoal in it at all.Originally Posted by Goon

but it is pollution gear yeah?
Yes it is part of the emission control. It contains a mesh type sponge. One side goes to the carb and the other to the tank. It basically circulates and recycles the vapours instead of having it released into the air which causes more pollution.Originally Posted by bigg_vin
dont block off your line to your fuel tank or it wont be able to vent during expansion, therefore, cause fuel leaks...
No wah to that!
Never late with ROB308...
