    Default blue smoke

Hi every one. I have just put a head on my blue motor 3.3L. And it is blowing blue smoke when I start up. It does not blow out blue smoke when it is ideling or driving along. I just want to know if its the head or the rings. It was a second hand head i got for free. The old head was cracked and needed to be replaced. Would the water geting in from the cracked head have covered up the blowing blue smoke.

from my experince, when blue smoke is seen only on start up, it is an indication that the valve stem seals are leaking......

cos the oil sits on them when car is off, and leaks through slowly, you wont notice the blue smoke whilst driving cos its not much oil getting through the seals.....

    i think
    Have a good one

It could be a combination of one of or a few of, worn valve guides, perished/buggered stem seals.
If the had has had a freshen up the valve stem seas may have been damaged at the time of fitting the valve springs, collets & retainers.

    cheers

With a newly assembled engine it sometimes takes time for the rings to form a good seal and generally to build up some carbon sealing etc....are you sure there is a problem???
