Hey there im looking at putting an LSD into my vk calais I need somthing pretty strong as im planning on making stupid amounts of power (around 400 RWKW) would a vl turbo take this sort of punishment and is it a straight conversion or would I need somthing like a F#*D 9 inch.
cheers.
a 4 pinion Borg Warner diff, a VL Turbo job, would handle it alright. What plans do you have, drag or street

nine inch conversions arent too badly priced now and are a good base for a high punishment diff.... plus you gotta find a VL turbo diff to start with and they arent very common at all
VL V8's also had the 4 pinion diff like the turbo's.
Ratios
V8 3.08
Turbo 3.45
Every one goes for the turbo diffs because of the ratio, which is easily changed anyway.
yep, that's the way I'd go.Bro has a fully sick XC Coupe running a 429 big block on NOS.It has a nine.Handles my bros heavy foot ok.Althou I once heard talk about seat belt bolt troubles with the nines.Sumthing about the rear belt bolts rubbing on the tyres in Commodores.Unsure of bros RKW output but he says he feeds on a diet of strictly Asian, chews up a rice burner once a week. It's an awsum machine, goes that quick it dun leave a shadow.Personally thou I consider it a vulgar display of excessive horsepower, but each to their own.Brother isn't a young bloke either so he's half there......I think.??Originally Posted by boona15

Thanks for the imput I think ill probably just go the nine inch conversion for now. ill be running it on the street (getting sick of wrx's and skylines at the lights) looking at doing a twin turbo stroker sort of combo.
what engine u hav? 8 or 6, efi or carby ?
Cheers, Robbie
Nice and mean looking. My cousin has an XC Cobra replica with a 351 Clevland with 302 heads and a compression of 10:1 I think. Even BP Ultimate fuel still makes it ping! Very nice car. Feels like you're taking off in a jet engine when he puts it at half throttle. I was honoured to be allowed to have a drive once. I must be only 2-3 who have driven it since he built it. I know the work involved in putting a car together. Like the other guy, it's the older Fords that really make me want one like an old XY GT would be not bad.Originally Posted by 308vkcalais

Brother now has brought a fully original spec XC Cobra 351.In good condition aswell apparently.I've not seen it yet.I think he said there were only ever 500made.He has also just bought an original XC GS Coupe, again all original. He's got a very clean & strait Marquis up his place too.Young Bros a Ford nut.I like them aswell but only the older types likehis & the GTHO's.I'll slap up sum pics when I see(drool)over them next.

Sounds good. There was only 400 of them made and they came in 302, 351, 4 speed manuals and 3 speed autos. They all came with dash plaques, so you know if you got an original. The first 200 were 351's and the rest were 302's. Not a million dollar value, but worth over $10K now. But in reality, a really good XC Cobra should fetch tens of thousands.
What sort of land does your brother have to store these cars? My cousin being a farmer, has plenty though!![]()
Brother has a farm.We go dirt bike riding up his place. He has his own tractors so we make r own dirt tracks on a spare paddock he has wif jumps & banked corners.Just spoke 2 him it is an original XC Cobra No;115.I'm hanging to see it.Luv the throaty roar of a 351.He knows all about Fords & Cobras.

Yeah dirt bikes are fun. My cousin has an XR 600 which has good power. You could almost kill yourself on it! Feels like 0-100 in 2 seconds. Going out spot lighting can be interesting. I will probably be going Thursday night. Hopefully we can get a few foxes and a couple of hares for the hounds. He has a big farm in dairy country, Northern Victoria. Not a dairy farmer though. Mixed business. Cattle, sheep, crops. I'd be interested in knowing how much he paid for it. My cousins Cobra replica is as good as any very good original Cobra. Has the stripes and all the goo.
admiral8, sorry for hijacking your thread. :/
Sorry to highjacking this thread but damn that yellow XC looks great, love the hard top XA-XC Falcons.
Oh and Slim there is a rare XC Cobra, with option 97, the Bathurst spec ones. These ones fetch a high price these days, not quite its XA/XB GT Coupe sisters.

SL/E, have you got any further info on it? I have never heard of anything further.
Slim, after searching though my library of Australian Muscle Car mags, 30 XC Cobras gained "Bathurst Option 97" which have; Scheel front seats, wider rear wheel arch for fatter rubber, spring tower reinforcement, fibreglass front spoiler(the other Cobras had vacuum formed ones), transmission cooler, idler arm brace, electric fan, hood scoop(same as A9X ones), long range fuel tank(128 litres), the front and rear seat trimmed in Corduroy/Cashmere black fabric(Other Cobras had blue/black interiors) and last of all fitted with 351 Clevo V8, I think Borg Warner 4 speed manuals(i have read that ford stopped with the Toploaders during XB Production). None of the "Bathurst Specials" had air con and power steering.
Slim if you can get hold of AMC issue 8.

Damien, I looked up my local library online and they don't have it. Do you have it in front of you? I'd really like a scan of the article if you had it.
I do have AMC Issue 8 in front of me but i don't have a scanner. But i'll see what i can do over the weekend. I gotta a new digi camera and has a setting for doc pics.
