hey, is it possible to hav a thermo fan mounted aat the opening of a cold air intake for more airflow ? mayb even hav the piping split up with a Y piece and hav dual intakes with one just cold air and the other fitted with the thermo. me and a mate were just brain storming ideas and we thought it wud b a gud idea to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. thanks
Cheers, Robbie
like what type of thermo fans? pc ones? DONT put them in series with your intake because they cause more restriction than flow and/or cooling. i think on JC or somewhere else.. someone did flow rate comparisons and other tests with adding fans to the intake. the best things you can do to the intake IMO are..
use stainless piping (more heat resistant compared to black plactic :P)
have the opening of the air intake at the very most front of the car (not in engine bay)
use hi flow pannel filters not conetype filters (pods)
yeah my brother is good frends with mics motor sports from millperra, i wanna see if he can custom make my cold air piping. thanks 4 the advice, im gonna buy a pannel air filter soon, the pods givn me the sh##$s cheers
Cheers, Robbie
no worries![]()
i'm pretty sure pods flow better than panel filters. HSV have actualy changed the airboxes on their cars now so that it has a pod inside it rather that the original holden panel filter pods do need some sort of heat shield however to stop them sucking hot air from underthe bonnet

anything flows better than the standerd pannel filter, thats why u go with a aftermarket filter like K&N for example, but there are plenty of other excellent brands.
imo the only reason pods are popular in there design is because how easy they are to fit and how "hi performance" it make the engine bay look.
but then again, i think havin a thermo hooked up at d end of d cold air intake, mayb could hav 2 pipes would be a good idea for doing burnouts. the last time i done a long burnout, my engine got so hot that my exhausts started glowing red hot lol *yeah*
Cheers, Robbie
cold air intake with a fan on the intake wont help you at all... to keep your engine cooler during your burnouts is a cooling system upgrade... ie. thermo fan for radiator and/or bigger radiator...
No wah to that!

Fans no good for air intakes or they would have fitted them as a standard item long ago.
K+N type free flow filters and some nice ducting to the front of the car like just behind front lip are good starters....
The airflow difference between a pod filter and its equivilent panel counterpart is S.F.A that you would never notice in everyday street use!![]()
Pods are waste of time unless you are going to fark around making a cold air box to go around it to keep engine bay heat out.
A suggestion for carbie 202 owners have a look at these:

and

Uses a webber carb and air intake from a coon and use a K+N element. Can then pipe a CAI pipe from the front to the air cleaner housing.
Cost maybe $60.00 all up?

A-TEAM AUTOMOTIVE was saying his engine is getting hot... cooler air intake is not going to cool down the engine...Originally Posted by traindriver

hey my 202 bluey is on gas with the varijet carby, how exactly does this falcoon air intake setup work? im not really interested in changing the carby.

Traindriver, if you read this it clearly mentions his engine gets hot during burnouts so try reading all the posts instead of the top one, then straight to the bottom...Originally Posted by A-TEAM AUTOMOTIVE

yeah guys thanks 4 the advice, im just gonna buy a pannel K&N and make a custom coldair intake which is going 2 go thru a hole im going to make in the front right hand wheel hub down under to the frount of the car. and maybe a thermofan on the radiator if it isnt too dear
Cheers, Robbie
I did read it, but it has nothing to do with the topic or the questions he was asking.Originally Posted by atrail308
