    Default Thermo Fans

ok, ive been reading a bit, and going through the threads, but i cant find the answer to my question.... maybe there is no answer.....

would a 16" thermo, in the original V8 shroud, be better than fitting the VT twin thermo fans?

or would the EL fans be better than both those above?

or would you say keep the clutch fan?

this is in a VH 253.....

    cheers
    Have a good one

thermos/electric fans are always gonna be better than a mechanical/clutch fan, as long as you have the sufficient size... but as for the difference of the ford and holden thermos, i too wanna know which is the easiest to fit to my ride...

it depends if you have auto cooling lines or not if you dont then its simple if you do it can still be done just a bit of cutting and bending

    ok, sounds all good...
Ill get AU ones, unless anyone has something bad to say about them....
and if anyone out there has done it, i would love to see some pics of the finished product...

how much cutting and bending are we talking.... and should i be able to do most of the mounting on the radiator frame rather than threw the radiator?

will they need to be mounted upside down?

do you reconmned running a thermostat switch such as a davis craig one.... that taps into the top radiator hose?

    cheers
    Have a good one

the in hose thermo switches are fairly reliable, use it to trigger the relays for your fans, but wire it up in a series circuit so you get full power to both fans... as for the temp sensor in the radiator hose, make sure it is sealed well, i had one start leaking before...

Yeah you may find with the AU fans that they will hang out a little past the radiator letting alot of air past.

Ford Mondeo fans are the way to go and fit alot better.

the AU fans are more expensive than the VT fans.....

    AU are 185
    VT are 150

which ones are actually better? ie can pull more air through?

There's been more VT fans around for awhile rather then AU, maybe due to the issue that the AU sucked hardcore in looks, so nobody really looked into them that much as the VT !

But you can give AU's a go if u like mate as suggested, but the more common choice is VT twins.

I recently put a 16" fan in, they bolt up way too easily. But having never done a twin setup off an AU ect I can only guess, I'd think a single 16" is easier.

    ok, sounds good...
i guess the main thing i would like to know now is if a single 16" fan will keep the 253 cool..... or is the AU fans the best option for this..... or the VT...... i dont want to be overheating this summer!!! thats happened to me before! not fun.....

If you want a setup thats piss easy to setup, Cheaper and that will work very effeciently go the single 16". One of these will keep a 350 cool in the hottest of days. It covers your whole radiator no probs at all. Leave the shroud on otherwise the fan wont be drawing the air through the rad as effeciently. But that only applies if you are mounting the fan on the inside of your bay. Will also get the air flowing through your bay cooling any chrome ect and will feed a little more air to you cleaner. You could modify the shroud to make this more effecient.
Also when using a thermatic switch put the temp sensor on the bottom hose not the top. This is because you want the fans to cut in when the rad isnt doing it's job of cooling the coolant.

Dunno yet, but 2 12" thermo's should definetely be ok I'd say lol. When I finish my motor and put it back in I'll make a frame up for the thermo's then put them in. Don't know wether to put them in front or behind the radiator tho...
