Yeah if u have the time and money I'd definetely suggest rebuilding it. To start with u should go and buy an engine stand, and either an engine crane or a block and tackle to lift the motor out with.
What sort of motor do u have in ur VH?

BTW, do u mean rebuilding the engine, or the whole car?

It's all about time. If you have time, go for it but don't expect it to give you $$$ back. If you want to do it because you'd like to restore it, then do it. If you want to do it to give to someone in your family, do it. If you want to do it and then sell it expecting heaps of money for it, don't do it.
You start with taking the transmission off, taking all the crap connected to the motor and lift it out. Take off the cylinder head and get it recoed with new valves and seals and a shave.
If the bottom end is ok, i.e not blowing smoke and there is good piston ring workings, then leave the bottom end. The cylinder head is where most of the work is done. You won't need to take the whole motor out if you just want the head recoed. Give it all a degrease and a coat of paint. Replace any frayed or crap wiring, give the transmission a minor re-kit and band adjustment if necessary, new fluid too. Check the uni joints and bushings all around. Replace any that look crap. Some will need special tools to remove and install them.
Expect to pay several thousand $. It will never stop.
It cost me over $2600 in gear to get my car right and I still want to do more. When I got it, it wasn't that bad.
Oh yeah, get factory workshop manuals and the Gregory's VH manual as it's also handy to have because it explains a lot of things in more simpler terms.
yea i want to rebuild the whole car, the motor is a 202 straight 6 4speed man. it use to go hard as but then it started makin noises and stuff and blowin a bit of smoke so yea now i am thinkin of rebuildin

id suggest buyin another vh thats in fairly gud nik 4 parts. then sell it off 2 d wreckers after youd had ur pic from d stuff u need. wen ur done, let us know if it goes hard!
Cheers, Robbie
The problem is the other VH he might get may have many worn parts as well which would not be use-able. Like you don't want to change a very worn bush with a worn one or a worn out head with a worn one. After 20+ years, most things would need to be replaced with new parts or reconditioned.
Ive allways found it easier to just wip the box out with the motor but thats just me i havnt posted on here alot as im usually just too busy but now im at work its allmost 4am and ive nothing to do so yeah ill post a pic of my VK in the next few days its my work hack my reall interested (when the new motor goes into the vk is my WB one tonner) tho im having trouble finding a good tranny builder to build me up a real tough 6cyl trimatic.
