I find Eagle one 20/20 is perfect for glass, no streaks and awesomely clean.

Also for chrome, I use mothers! or a product called Auto Sol, I think it's kinda hard to get here. Works on all metals! Alloy to Steel and everything in between

There is a special bug cleaning sponge you can get at the supermarket. It's like a coarse fabric sponge that actually works great and it doesn't scratch the surface being used on either.

Mythbusters proved cola works well on chrome, but then you gotta clean it again cos it's all sticky, lol.

Washing them off before they set rock hard. Regular Waxing helps making them easier to come off. When you wash your car use warm/hot water and it will also help. Something stronger you can add some Kero or Mineral Turps to the water this will also remove some if not all wax so the car will need rewaxing. You can spot clean with Wax & Grease remover (AKA Prepsol) and wipe off with a clean rag.

Personally I use Autosol to polish alloy & chrome parts and Meguires wax to help protect them.

Depending on how long the crap has been sitting there will result in how its going to come off.
