We run a huge V8 Tranny Cooler on her EFI VK Berlina atm so the old Radiator Trans Cooler is no longer used.I've plumbed the Cooler lines str8 2 the exterior cooler.I was thinking of re-routing the P/S return line 2 the unused Cooler then back 2 the Tank to possibly help cool the fluid.I've noticed the newer model comm's have P/S coolers standard on their Radiators.I didn't want 2 clutter up my Radiator anymore with another Cooler.Just thinking out loud...![]()

Well, considering the newer model cars run them there must be sum merit to it.I mean the Manufacturers still don't put tow bars or Tranny Coolers on as standard but every bugga goes out & fits them.I'm thinking there'd be sum benefit from it as your P/S Pumps approx 9 litres PM at idle & more under pressure(Turning) so it would extend/help the life of the fluid.P/S Fluid/Trans Oil burns/discolours easily...

Run a seperate cooler for the P/S and not the one in the radiator.
I was trying to avoid clogging up my Radiator anymore & slowing the air flow.I want to install 1 as I'm convinced there'd be a benfit from it.I'm about to rebuild her entire Steering Rack, Pump & front Suspension so I dun want anymore dramas in the future + being under there I mite as well do any other bits I wanted while I'm covered in gunge...

The later commodores have power steering coolers fitted, as part of the factory heavy duty tow packs. I believe this is to prolong the life of the power steering pump, as it is mounted tucked under the exhaust manifold and after prolonged hard work (towing) the manifold will glow red hot and cook the seals in the pump. Mate of mine who was a mechanic years ago, told me that falcons (XA-F) get the power steering boxes cooked, as they where mounted close to the firewall and right beside the exhaust manifold and copped plenty of heat, where the HQ-Z holden box was mounted right up front and away from the heat and did not get that problem, the holden pumps just bled to death :-)
A power steering cooler has to be a good thing.
