What PSI do you guys set your regulator to on your air compressor when spraying?
I forgot to set mine today when I sprayed a clothes trolley and vapourized the neighbours backyard with thinner gas.
I was thinking about 60-90 PSI? Would that be about suitable?
Cheers.
I dont no what compressor ur using but i suggest altering ur gun pressure on ur gun, obviously ur going to need change pressure depending on what ur spraying i mean theres a bit difference in pressure from bace coat to clear,,
My gun has 2 options. (1) The amount of paint flow and (2) the size of the 'fan'. Like you can shoot it in a pencil type or a very broad spray.
Because nearly all comressors vary, the best way to do it is to fiddle round with the regulator whilst test spraying on something. That way you can work out the best PSI and 'fan' combo that works for whatever your spraying, and the consistancy of the paint.

One major component I have found with virtually all compressors is they all have a screw type regulator. They don't vary much at all. They may use different cylinder set ups or motors, but the basic design is all the same.
Well, the basic design is all the same, but I've noticed they all spray different. Whether you set the regulators to the same. Still, you can't go wrong if you've tested it!

While we're on ths subject....does anyone use the $100 GMC air compressors? I bought one Nov last year and it has a 2 year replacement warranty......well 2day I filled out the papers for a 4th replacement.....they just keep stuffing up.
The first time it didn't build up pressure, so I returned it and they said to have it boxed up and someone will drop a new one off and pick the old one up. Well I got the new one, but they said to keep the old one. So I gave it to my brother which replaced a gasket and it works like new again. Then a month or 2 down the track, this one started playing up. I would turn it on, but it would only run for a few seconds then it would set off the surge protector, tried it straight off the power point and it still stopped.
So I got a new one. The old one I pulled to bits and found out it was a loose wire.....but by the time I found that out I had already cut a few wires to remove other crap. My new one has been going ok but yesterday I noticed a crack in one of those metal-ish pipes. When it pumps air into the tank it leaks a bit, but if u leave it long enuf it still builds up pressure.......I could easilly just get another pipe off my spare compressor, but I may as well get another one as it's still under warranty. If they want the old one I'll give them the one which had the electrical fault (but switch the cracked pipe with the good one on it).
Not bad for $100......3 ar compressors going for the 4th. And I still have over 1 year warranty on it haha.
When the warranty runs out I rekon I'll be buying one from a different manufacturer.

I got totally pissed off a while back. I bought an Arlec enforcer air from Kmart and returned it after about 10 months because it refused to fill up one day. 2 weeks after getting a replacement, the cylinder head was leaking oil. I packed it in the boot, when down to Kmart and asked for a refund. This had a two year warranty. I got my $150 back and thought that was the last time I will ever buy a cheapo compressor or any direct drive model for that matter.
I recently spent $360 and got a trade type twin cylinder belt drive off ebay. I have seen them in the shops for $600.
So my point is, those cheap compressors are JUNK.
I brought a superworks air compressor 2 and a half years ago, there about 169 + atm at supercheap and ive had it since then and its still going
Used it again today !
So all cheap cant be JUNK , you just gotta now how to use it and look after it
[EDIT] double post, i'm good![]()
i bought 3 supper sh.t ones. i run them all in to a 85l gas tank then i have enuff free air per min and enuff so they dont run all the time
Do you really want to see my 30 year old clothes trolley painted? It went alright. Just didn't set the regulator and half the paint would have been lost because it isn't like painting a flat panel.

Make that about 90% paint lost.![]()
With mine I've spray painted the outside walls of our big shed, our medium size shed, and my Mum's garden shed, also a rather large bird cage inside and out, the inside of a part of our fence, also the fence down the side of our house which is about 2-3 meters high and about 20 meters long (maybe a bit more), and the fence out the front, both sides of it....still have the other half of the front fence to do, aswell as the rest of our fences. Also a heap of little things like the grill on my Mum's car, my bonnet, my brothers glovebox and a few fenders. Other then that I just use it for all my air tools. So although I use mine a fair bit, I think it should be able to stand up to a bit of spray painting. I'll even post a pic my Mum took of me the other day when I just finished the first coat on our front fence.![]()
