Gday
I am off to Canada at christmas and will be dropping into the USA as well. I am looking at purchasing a carbie whilst I'm there as they are relatively cheap and will fit in my luggage. I have been told many differing opinions about carbs and was wanting a few more from fellow enthusiasts. My VH has a 308 with trimatic (recently rebuilt). I have been told by its previous owner it has a "Towing cam" installed. I am also adding a set of extractors and new exhaust (3'). I'm not after mind blowing performance or petrol guzzling qualities. Just a nice rumble and good clean acceleration. It currently runs the standard Rochester Quadrajet. Should I get a new Rochester Quadrajet, another manufacturers Quaddie or something else? Please help?
edelbrock are making a carby called the Q-jet, based on the old rochester quad, any rebuilt rochester will be ideal for your setup, i wouldnt worry about holley or demon carbs, but you'll definately see a few of those for sale over there... but in my opinion, if you want to replace ur carb and your goin over to the states, check out the q-jet...
No wah to that!
Never late with ROB308...
Buy a brand new Quadrajet if they are available. That would be gold having a new one. Make sure you get a pollution one so you can attach all your emission control hoses back on. Get the part number of your current one before you go so you can compare carbs when you are there.
Avoid Holley carbs as you can get a canary if you get pulled over and they will tell you to put the original one back on (if they see it).
Maybe the previous owner used to tow a lot of stuff and got the camshaft changed to suit his driving habits.
Yeah you'll probably see Holley signs in every auto shop in the States. They are big over there seeing they are from there.
Thanks for the feedback guys guess the options are limited. will check out the QJET and see whats what, cant wait to have a look at some of those speed shops in the states.
